And I reaaaallly like "Revelations" but I have a sentimental spot for Calvin Keyes "Shawn-Neeq" just because it was the first one I ever found and bought.
that 10 minute (or whatever) version of "Kush" is !! the way they stop playing and the crowd starts to clap and then the bassline comes back in! dopeness!

favorites: revelation, 1st awakening, adams apple bassline: the one off talk to my lady cover: the one with all the (how come roland haynes got to have a drawing??) favorite musical cover: summertime/walter bishop jr.
i find lot of black jazz kind of snoozy. but hten again, im no musician and just want to hear music with the rhythym section up front.
the song "revelation" is amazing though he covers are works of art.
how is "plenty good eaton"? heard it once, longago, and didnt really like it. did i miss something?

not on BJ, but damn right, that version of Kush is great. Just listened to that on Saturday, in fact.
I also like that bass line off the Gene Russell that tripledouble mentioned.
i like Doug Carn's "revelation" aswell as the rest of you. plus Kellee Patterson's - "maiden Voyage" LP. I've been enjoying Calvin Key's - "criss cross" on Ovation alot recently aswell...
another vote for the awakening. "mirage" was one of the first jazz lp i picked up, so it might be a litte nostalgic love. on the other hand, it`s just SERIOUS business. but it`s hard to pick just one. there`s not a single weak release on the label.

haha but seriously, ive always wondered what was slated for BJ13?? or did they just skip unlucky 13?

Co-sign. Most of their recordings were in the spiritual Jazz tradition, not a style that really catches my attention.
That being said I have all the BJ releases, plus a couple of the Ovation releases, which was the company that eventually took them over.
I'm partial to the Henry Franklin albums.
