Nas was just doing the same thing as all the other rappersI say the Jay-Z was much more innovative, I mean its easy to look at something like Dead Presidents and see it as a cliche now, but remember when Dirt Off Your Shoulder came out in 1970. Way different than what was happening then.

Nas has the best single album,
but Jay-Z has a far better body of work so...
I say Nas, Illmatic trumps all!

Nas fell off a lot harder than Jay-Z.

    Winner: Jay-Z

Yeah, there's no doubt Nas takes that in a landslide. That being said, if I had to pick an MC today to put over a dope beat, I'd still pick Nas

    Nas. Sometimes, many days.

i'm sorry but any association with that fucking "The Firm" record gets an automatic NAGL. Dr. Dre barely shook that one off, so Nas' mediocre recycled flows get no love here. Jay Z has fallen off, but I'm not sure "esco" ever climbed back up in the first place.

  • Nasty Nas all day..lyrically nicer..

Nas, hands down, without question, if you don't dig it you need to go back and listen to Live at the Barbeque and his other early verses, not to mention all of illmatic.

Jay may have been more consistent over a longer period of time.

But Jay doesn't have an "Illmatic."

Ahh, but the in between? GARBATION!

  • Lost Tapes,Gods Son= not garbage!

Lost Tapes is good, but God's Son was a big disappointment for me. Three-four good tracks, lots of GARBATION.

  • actually now that I think about it that was the problem with all his albums after Illmatic..2-5 good cuts and the rest

  • Jay-Z by a lot. Illmatic's the greatest LP ever, and Nas can still mesmerize with a verse or if we're lucky a song, but J's been making hits at such a consistently high level for so long, he left Nas in the dust a while ago.

Nas' verse on Back to the Grill =

Nas at his best > Jay at his best

    But I pick Jay
