I've been wondering about this for a long time...Other than the obvious, has anyone made any recordings??What labels/artists are still active?

He means post-Katrina and by "obvious," I believe he means the nationally-distributed releases that we've all heard, like Reality Check and Carter II.

Cash Money, Ex-Cash Money, No Limit and Ex-No Limit...

I have not heard one thing about a non-nationally recognized NOLA rapper or label since the storms... Peaches Records and Tapes is long gone.......

Noz mentioned Fiend has a new album, its pretty good but my favorite shit on it is the stuff he did with KLC

KLC's supposed to have a new album out, and Play It Loud is banging, but thats been anticipated since like '04

I dont know if its an old comp or if they're recording him in prison a la C-Murder or what but Turk dropped something around the fall that i haven't heard

and of course there's lil boosie technically from baton rouge but...sorta counts. I thought that album was disappointing tho.

Oh yeah currensy and mack maine for sure!

I think he's wondering what's going on with the dozens of locally popular artists--not with Li'l Wayne's camp. I know I am.

A lot of people from the bounce scene have dispersed to New Orleans and Atlanta. I talked to a promoter last summer who said he'd been having good luck putting on bounce shows in Atlanta.

uh well if yr talking no national profile whatsoever then...i'd be interested to know too i guess
mack maine mixtapes i didn't think qualified as 'nationally distributed music that we've all heard' at least that last part of it

mack maine and currensy, despite being associated w/ lil wayne, are individual entities locally though. Not like those dudes B.G. rolls with

  • If you want to hear some New Orleans rappers then you need to get
your ass over to myspace, post-haste.

As far as big commercially songs dropped post-Katrina, there's that
Baby Boy "The Way I Live" single that came out last year, hyped first
here on Soulstrut by the one Harvey Canal. The full album is supposed
to be out in about a month. I'm excited.

But for the real moment, you need to go on myspace to
hear the song "Good Juge". I think a "Juge" is a dick weapon,
like you would offer to a girl "I got that good juge". Holy schitt,
this track is fire hott, and your lack of checking this track has
just been elevated to Funky Emergency status:

Okay, now as far as tracks actually addressing Katrina, the one that
sticks out the most to me is 5th Ward Weebie's "Fuck Katrina".
5th Ward Weebie's music to me sounds the most like what was going
on with the new turbo-bounce with the relentless handclaps that
was going on right up to Katrina. Also check the party track
"Fulla Dat Tron". No, it's not about the science fiction movie,
and yes, that does sound like a fake Lil Jon hollaring on it:

    www.myspace.com/fifthwardweebie

Also looks like Hot Boy Ronald has some new tracks:

    www.myspace.com/hotboyronaldno

    And then there's Kilo:

In addition, the Partners-n-Crime CD was finally released on Rap-A-Lot
last year, but I'm pretty sure those tracks have been sitting around
since before Katrina. Unfortunately, the album does not come highly
recommended, unless you are a New Orleans rapper completist.

Once you start checking these myspace pages you will then see your
access to lots of other New Orleans rappers, as well as former NOLA
residents who are now part of the diaspora, in Dallas, Houston,
    Baton Rouge, Atlanta, etc.

Also, you will see some very intriguing myspace profiles for some
    extremely well-rounded young women.

Mack Maine and Currensy are on Young Money/Cash Money.

ugh all i'm saying is people actually cop mack maine CDs, nobody is like "man i can't wait for that new hakizzle joint."

I don't know anything about mack maine being officially signed to CM. Not the point tho

    anyway good looking out

Baby Boy is a Choppa dude...out that West Bank, Marrero.

Also, while he's from Baton Rouge...Max Minelli should probably be brought up in this thread as well.
