Pretty much everything that isn't Syl Johnson.
Unreleased Jo Ann Garrett and (virtually) unreleased Velma Perkins.
Double disk. Heavy.
As great as I know this release will be, a 10+ CD set of their entire catalogue would...well...those Syl Johnson represses suck.
SCARAB!
Is this that stuff with Merda, or am I thinking of a different lady?
...
"A FRESH RELEASE FROM THE NUMERO GROUP!"

It took two years to make, but fuck was it worth it.
Killer like Phillis Diller. The frames on that link are kinda
screwy right now, but I get the picture. This will be hott.
When are y'all going to do one on the PM Records[/b] label.
If you do that, make sure and use recycled plastic for the CDs.
What's her name, Kenyatta Collins? with Mack Simmons did a
version of "If Loving You Is Wrong, I Don't Want To Be Right".
Would actually like to hear some PM in higher fi.
Please to get it fi'd up.
Numero run things.
We're getting the first two back this week. TSOB b/w Instrumental (sounds 50 times better than the boot - loud as fuck) and Sabata "Man For My Lady" + instrumental re-edit. Both are legit, finally.
The fourth in the disco series will be an unreleased disco-rap cut by the Fabulous 3 MCs, and beyond that we're looking at a ton of stuff from the TAP/Universal labels out of NYC.
What's the 3rd in the series?
Stormy - The Devastator
Annette Poindexter - Mama
Dynamic Tints - Package Of Love (Part 1)
Nate Evans - Main Squeeze
Renaldo Domino - Not Too Cool To Cry
Mystiques - So Good To Have You Home Again
Sidney Pinchback - Soul Strokes
Pieces Of Peace - Pass It On (Part 1)
Dynamic Tints - Be My Lady
Perfections - Which One Am I
Josephine Taylor - Is It Worth A Chance
Kaldirons - To Love Somebody
Radiants - My Sunshine Girl
Chuck & Mac - Powerful Love
Notations - A New Day
Kaldirons - You And Me Baby
Perfections - Why Do You Want To Make Me Sad
Mystiques - Put Out The Fire
Johnny Williams - Breaking Point
Mist - Life Walked Out
Renaldo Domino - Nevermore
Nate Evans - Pardon My Innocent Heart
Schiller Street Gang - Remind Me
Annette Poindexter - Wayward Dream
Harrison & The Majestic Kind - Tearing Me Up Inside
Jo Anne Garrett - Goin' Man Huntin'
Notations - I Can't Stop
Renaldo Domino - Two Years Four Days
Jimmy Jones - Yesterday's Mistakes
Kicks that other Twinight comp's ass up and down.
This was originally released on Coin, no? Did they pass the Masters over to Twinight?
Are there any other tracks on the comp that had earlier releases?
"let me come within" is on there.
that list is only about 3/4th of the total songs (double-disc-related).
the harrison & the majestic kind on coin have different takes/mixes.
the mystiques and elvin spencer had earlier releases.
"Roll On" by the New Colony Six
THANK YOU
I was starting to sweat over that one... I've already resigned myself to the fact that I'll never own the 45
Oh: Thank god. I was looking at the tracklist last week and thinking: What the hell?
Rob and Ken: you could have TOLD me. Heh. You gotta post the others if possible.
Well, that was on SunLight, anyway.
That was Twinight's pop subsidiary, so close enuff!
(Wonder if this Twinight set will include E. Rodney Jones'"Soul Heaven." Or would they have to pay extra bux for the samples of tracks by Jimi Hendrix, Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong, etc. that that song uses?)
Will-
Thanks for pointing out the ommisions on our site. That page has an error in the code, and this is definitely not the complete track list. We're fixing now. I'll post the complete list shortly, all 40 this time.
O-
The first 12" is the Rhaburn "Disco Connection" and Professionals "Guajida" + bonus edits. TSOB and Sabata follow.
PW33-
No "Soul Heaven," though it was in the final cut list. Ultimately we decided that the track had been comped a billion times and there were others that needed a little more love. We will be doing a 45 of it...
Which brings me to...
Twinight 45 series. It's happening. The first three:
Renaldo Domino "Nevermore/Not Too Cool To Cry"
Annette Poindeter & Pieces Of Peace "Mama/Wayward Dream"
Sidney Pinchback & Schiller Street Gang "Soul Strokes/Remind Me"
All in tasty Twinight sleeves.
Alright, shameless self promo is over. Apologies Mods. Ban if you must.
I really can't shake off the idea of having a 10CD Twinight box though (45s in sequence of release/subsidaries, unreleased Syl LP). As much of a pipe dream that may be, or how much work that would entail (Rob's Pieces of Peace liner notes are a 16-page insert as it is), I'm confident there is quite a market for it. Keep up the good work.
Here, here. Numero Group is Numero Uno.
YES!YES!YES!YES!YES![/b]
It's actually only 6 CDs. There are several unreleased Syl tracks, plus some Dynamic Tints, a few Syl album tracks, and 56 45s. Not as big as you'd think. There's almost one disc of garage stuff... can you handle the Machine 45? The idea is out there, but due to the current legal battle over the Syl material, it just can't happen. Syl is a friend, and he'd like to do something with the recordings (you all saw those "reissues" right?), but right now it's going to jury trial. We'll see what happens following that... because believe me, there's a ton more of the story to tell. We only wrote 9000 words, and cut it off because we didn't want to go to an exterior booklet (Master CD diggers know that anything over 32 pages is a bitch to get in and out). The Renaldo Domino stuff that Rob turned up is beyond sick, it's diseased. Dude needs his own collection in a big way.
Thanks for the kind words. I don't think this set will disappoint any Twinight fan. If anything, you'll want more.
P.S. We're in desperate need of the Guild 45 and Jimmy Jones 45. Masters are gone, and we were unable to track down original 45s for remastering. Ideally we want to get everything transferred, so if you've got it, let me know.
As Rob can attest, my copy plays through with some bad scratches through the first :30. The rest is VG+. I need a scratch doctor for this jaw-dropper. As I was telling DigDug, this track is a monster. Those strings are like an liquid-organic alien life form, or some nonsense like that.
