Stax/We Produce
just a stab
Is We Produced pronounced Volt? Is Gospel Truth pronounced Truth? Does Hi have a subsidiary? Who else was recording in Memphis in both the 60s and 70s? Gold Wax, Bell... Duke Houston, Fame Muscel Shoals, Sunshine/Malaco Jackson, SSS.....
Enterprise Enterprize and Stax?
Volt Vault Stax?
Yeah, this one has me in knots.
I'm pretty sure I've thought of every Stax subsidiary, unless there's
a super-obscure one that sounds like another.
Hi has Cream, right? But not Creem too?
ugh. my head hurts.
I was trying to pronounce
"we produce" to make it sound like "enterprise"
stax records -> safice, weis, chalise, jotis??????????????????/
ugh. this shit is really giving me fits.
ok we can solve this. stax started out as satellite. there was volt, obviously. gospel truth, hip and respect as previously mentioned. there was also Partee, which richard pryor's record was on. then they got bought by Fantasy, which isn't a subsidiary, technically.
shit.
maybe it's not stax.
Partee Party?
i thought that at first, but to my knowledge (limited knowledge) of Stax, there was no Party subsidiary.
Don't tell me the answer is Hip/H.I.P. cause that would be cheesy.
So I don't think it's Stax-related. I was looking at the Goldwax angle and I think they had a subsidiary called XL which seemed like a tantalizing clue that lead me nowhere. So yeah, I give up. Can't wait to find out what it is.
Hi Records is the first part of the answer....what are the two subsidiary labels.
shit, that's all i could find.
Cream doesn't count because they bought Hi, right?
the connection isn't tri and hi, is it?
arghhh. time to go to work, g/l ya'll
there's mach too ...
There's a winner!!!!!!!!!
Hi MOC Mach
The most popular releases on each were..
Murray Kellum "Long Tall Texan" on MOC
Leviathan "S/T" LP on Mach
I've been told that MOC were the initials of the label owners wife but I'm not positive that is true.
PM me your mailing address for your prize!!!
How do MOC and Mach sound the same?
maybe i'm a record-nerd idiot, but that was a hard question.
i want another! that was probably the most i've thought about obscure record trivia in awhile.
mach != match.
With the knowledge base here it HAS to be hard.
Well....where I come from the word Mach is pronounced Mock
And the only way I can think of to pronounce the letters MOC is Mock
Am I the only one who sees it this way???
Possibly, i only ever hear it pronounced as "Mack"...
I can't even try to give away a damn record without getting into a disagreement.....amazing.
I just asked 4 co-workers how to pronounce this and all 4 said "Mock 5"
Anyone who "only ever hears it pronounced MACK" rolls with illiterates. No offense.
Come on faux he is just rolling hard for .
Either that or rolls with British people...
Mach = Mack
Tune = Choon
faux rillz = ponce
etc...
Just playing, just saying that not everyone on here pronounces it the same, that's all...
Right, then; the correct pronunciation is "mock".
Bloody 'ell.
Why, you effete, limp-wristed, white glove-wearing...
But seriously, don't people with British accents pronounce "MACK" as "MACH," rather than vice-versa?
It was, don't mistake my comments as hattitude, they are instead me being a bitch because i didn't get the answer...
I'm confused, if people in England see the words Mach 4 they'll pronounce it Mack...
