Here we go................This fool is crazy, an ego maniac, dresses REAL gay a lot of the time, trippin', TERRIBLE with geography, etc.........But DAMN he still makes some dope tracks. This dude and Just Blaze damn near saved the sample based production we all know and love. Kanye is fucked up and crazy, but his catalog is ILL! This fool gets a pass. We need more chracters like him in the current music scene. At least this dude is interesting and makes a lot of dope tracks. I would sit down and have a few drinks with this fool.

My biggest regret about Kanye is that the caliber of mc's to work with isn't that great. Imagine some Kanye joints with top notch rappers in their prime like Primo circa 94 - 95.

sayin'! I always thought dude solid but after hearing J-Period's "G.O.O.D. Music" mix; which is basically all the stuff he's produced for his artists you think "Daaaaamn dude doesn't just have good beats-HE HAS GREAT beats".

i always been feeling kanye since the blueprint. just as a producer though. But i thought thru the wire and most of the joints off college drop out were real good. Thru the wire is one of those joints that gives me goosebumps. Just the story he tells about that shit that went down with him, and the music to accompany it.... His new shit ive been a little but when he wants to bring the beats he brings the beats.

I'm at the club right now and just played "Wouldn't Get Far", the new Game joint which is probably my fav recent Kanye producto, a return to form. And I still play "Get Em High" all the time. Dude is def. mental though.

I agree with above post. Wouldn't Get Far is a head nodder. Kanye's always been cool with me. Even his personality. It makes me laugh. It's not like I look at artists to be roll models. I'm looking for entertainment. Making a mokery of shit and acting like a pompous ass is hillarious to me. He doesn't give a fuck. I mean fuck an award show anyway.

He's improved tremendously as a rapper--I'd say he's probably better than Game.

I know "blue collar" was one of those special hip-hop buzz words of 2006, err '05, err '04, whatever, but I just liked Kanye's seeming down-to-earthness. Lines like: "She said she wanted diamonds / I took her to Ruby Tuesdays."

Plus i always say that people like him (him=producer) should be judged on their "actions" (beats) and not their "words" (ITWs and such). Plus his behaviour is not as disturbing as Daz or Snoop's behavior could be for example. These are two dumb fucks and i could care less about what they say, show or stand for. I just listen to it or i don't. Kanye made some valid remarks (ie the Bush statement) but he also participate HEAVILY to what he's fighting for, as many rappers do by the way...So let it be. "Dreams" or "Guerilla Mansoon Rap" make me forgive him. And you know what, saying stupid shit is a godamn sport. Look at the Strut, it's full of Kanye's. Life's full of Kanye's. And i'd rather with some Kanye's than some Jeezy's. It's just me and my opinion, but i guess most people in here would relate to Kanye more than, let's say, Jeezy.

I know people have frowned at the man for comparing himself to Stevie and whatnot, but I don't think he really is that far off. I mean, who else in the contemporary music scene composes his own music, makes lyrics to it and crafts them into songs that have really big appeal to people around the world. He even holds his own on stage really good, without need for a hypemen. Plus he has soul. I can appreciate that!

I was not comparing them in such a way. Kanye works in a hip hop context so the method of making music is fundamentally different. My point is that in the context of hip hop Kanye is the closest equivalent to what Stevie was in regards to soul music. On the grounds that I stated above and IMHO of course.

My comparison might be completely off, but I guess we will see in a couple of decades. In your opinion Batmon, are there musical geniuses working with hip hop that could one day be compared to Stevie, Marvin, Miles or Duke?

I mean, I can see similarities between Stevie and Duke in regards to their central position in the music scene inside their own time, even though the former did not compose for big bands, and used synthesizers instead.
