More pictures of rare records? Why bother with pictures? Instead, how about printing the telephone numbers of old arists, producers, and studios each issue so that we can score our own rare records?
i just saw that chick in the tony yayo video the other day. you see her a couple of times just from the waist up and she just looks like your normal video ho and then near the end they show her full figure for a split second and it's like $$#KAPPOWW#$$!!!! god damn. that shit is ridiculous.
oh and wax poetics is pretty dope. but whats up with that dj muro article? you're the king of digging? show us some pictures of your raers muhfucka.
I don't love a lot of the hip-hop-aesthetic-based questions, ie "since every rapper and their mother has sampled you, how does it feel to be a PIONEER of HIPHOP BEATS???" ad nauseum, I mean maybe one question to an oft-sampled artist is cool but three or four about hip-hop is ridiculous. There are surely more interesting things to talk about than loops of an artist's work?
I remember reading one of the early issues online featuring Bernard Purdie. The interviewer questioned him asking why he used so many breakbeats in his music. Purdie, from what I could tell, seemed completely baffled by the question and responded with "I was just doing my job." If I remember correctly, he had to reiterate this point several times.
we ran a damn interview with Anthony Pearson (proposed and written by Guzzo) in the same issue as an Eddie Fisher article (written by a "journalist").
I rest my case.
I think we all could have done without that one.
You don't think its awesome? I do!
Yeah. Only b/c its guzzo/AP softgaygarageporn. uh! them honks coulda dones that here and saved that paper for why modal-bop masters went back to pre-school and made "funk" records or some shit.

see and y'all wonder why I come off so angry all the time...it's cause of bullshit like this. Faux if you got a problem you could do one of two things, Write your own damn articvle or shut the fuck up.
I'm sick of assholes spitting out venom for no damn reason. I wrote that aricle before I really knew Anthony and thought it was very interesting how so many record stores and dealers find it hard to get by but yet this guy found a way to flourish in the field. I was lucky enough to write an article that recieved some attention and make a good friend. In comparrison to other articles I've read in the magazine it stands up. I've proposed other articles and began work on some interviews with some truly intersting people. Sorry for going on an angry tirade, just find it offensive that certain dumbfucks find ways to talk shit about other peoples work

You mad?
If you think that article "stands up" in comparison to other articles in WP it's really more an indictment of the magazine's content than it is a resounding point in favor of your piece.
And you can miss me with that "write your own article or be quiet" bullsh!t; when you submitted it for publication you invited public comment on it. Do you really want a more nuanced critique from me? Do you really need me to explain why you jerking off a guy that sells records on eBay makes for an uninteresting read and is a waste of paper?

first off I don't really care if people with a valid opinion say shit however your history on this website shows you to just be a bitter angry armchair quarterback and that is what I am more sick of than anything. and yes my comment stands I challenge you to write something for the magazine if you think you can do better. Sitting on your computer complaining about it makes you nothing more than an internet fanboy with an opinion

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Adam.
This challenge is meaningless to me.
I don't require the validation of being published in WP because I already write for a living.
If WP will consider paying my hourly billable to put together an article for them, then I will consider doing so.
Why you gotta be such a douche bag? Seriously, Adam is a young dude trying to hustle to survive. His piece did not suck, and by dissing him like this in front of everyone you are just trying to discourage him. And increasingly most of your posts are just ad hominum attacks on people. I don't care when you come after me because you can't recognize the genius of soundbombing 2. It's not like you ever backed any of your arguments up with facts, if there were facts to muster in this matter of taste. But don't pick on Guzzo. It takes a lot of sack just to pitch a story, let alone publish something. When he did the AP interview, he didn't know him and he did an admirable job of capturing that dude's wierd little world and record collection. So what if they are friends now? And furthermore, just saying the writing in wax po sucks adds nothing to the conversation, if you can't point out what sucks about it, and how it might improve. Anyway, you need to let the negativity go and accept the light of Zion.
Seriously, Adam is a young dude trying to hustle to survive.
Here's a free lesson for all young dude[s] trying to hustle to survive: Music journalism, in any form, is not the life-sustaining "hustle" you seek. Trust me on this one.

To add on in theme, despite what one might think looking at Anthony's auctions, record dealing is not the best way to retire at 35 and live lavish till the casket drops...

So true. If you can manage to wrangle some money out of the music journalism game, be proud of yourself and go ahead and treat yourself to that pricey record you've been wanting. This is most likely not going to be the way to pay rent, though.
but Guzzo, your AP article was completely worthless. i'm sure you can do better. try again. hey, i'm a record dealer. why don't you interview me?
haha, maybe I will, but first you gotta create a buzz amongst record nerds. My original idea for an article in WP was actually more of a collaboration with Nate Bizzo, It was an idea based on the sound of "folk funk", after realizing that the topic wasn't all that valid I switched over to this idea of writing about this dude I see buying up every record in sight and making a name for himself reselling. I thnk people forget that Anthony and I weren't always sitting back in teepee's getting stoned while talking about bloodshitters; Prior to this article I didn't know him.
I think some of this bitterness is due to Anthony demystifying himself by typing on this site and showing himself to be a human being with a sense of humor. Before his residency on SS Anthonys name was used in one of two ways, either as an ebay link that we would look at and comment on or as "that guy" who bought up all the LP's in my neighborhood.. Now he's a contributing member of an internet board housed by other record dealers and musicologists as well as hip-hop producers, music journalists, and artists...and I think most of you can say he's been quite the welcome addition.

Even though I'm under threat to keep Adam's name out of my mouth () I have to add on/agree with the kid here - WaxPo ran a very similar article on John Carrarra a couple issues prior. John is an incredibly interesting dude, love or hate him. Has stories for days about glory-era producers, discovering now-standard breaks, Roosevelt, and the same ol' "look what I found in a barn" kind of stories we love. Because of his connection to dudes like DITC, Beatnuts, QTip, etc etc etc he was totally relevant for WP to feature... I don't know if Anthony is the same kind of animal but it's not totally out of bounds to feature a big and talked-about dealer. Val Shively also got a huge spread.
I didn't read the Pearson article so I can't comment on how good or bad the writing itself is... but to suggest that this kind of article isn't valid or interesting is bullshit. Frank, Daniel, etc... I don't think WP will become a serious journal (the way you guys want it to be) tomorrow, but I respect the fact that they're working towards it. Hopefully Dante & co. try to push the envelope rather than fall back on crate digging cliches.
Guz, I always say that if you have to provide explanations regarding an article, then that article must have not been written well to begin with. Sure, it was funny. But felt like I was reading a SS thread printed in a magazine. Nothing on you, because like I said, I???m very confident you can do better. I???m looking forward to you next article(s).
I should also say that if this article was, in fact, what got AP over here posting on the regular, I???m down with that.
