"Preemo!!!!!!!!!!!! Good title for the mix tape " NO talent Required" that pretty much sums up the music industry these days with the fake djs who claim there djs but they dont mix, cut, or spin records the right way, the way it should be. Anyone can be a dj spinning cds. The art of Djing is all about mixing, cutting and showing skills. You always keep it real Preem, its good to see there are some of us left who appreciate the real hip and strive to keep alive the real aspects of what hip hop is all about. Much love from Beantown!"
"Definitely feeling that "No Talent Required" theme and the CD playerz. Only real DJ's can understand that $h*t. Vinyl 4-EVA! One"
Did people already forget that in a not so distant past before cdjs, Microwave, etc., that were tons of wack djs spinning vinyl too?
I believe we called them "sucka djs"
Anyways there are still wack DJs spinning vinyl to this day, and there are also great DJs that use Microwave now. Shit, it's not like Microwave or CDjs pick the tunes and cut and scratch them for you.
I don't want to hate on Premier, because over the years he has been one of my favourite DJ's..
but when he played in Australia a year or two ago, he put on one of the most boring and contrived DJ shows i have seen in a while.. the whole set was full of played out standards, with almost no scratching or doubles, and then him yelling over the microphone telling us all that we need to learn this and that.. yawn!! I tell you now, that there are a heap of Australian DJs that premier could take a few DJ lesssons from himself..
I'd love to see you say that to his face, hahaha. Immediately after you would..
Your right.. I wouldn't laugh in his face - the dude is twice as big as me. I just wouldn't drop another $20 to see him yell on the mic about how we need to learn and get with the real shit or whatever while he plays the same tracks every other Sydney based R&B DJ already plays. Dude seriously spent more time on the microphone than he did on the decks. It's a shame really - He is still one of hiphops greatest producers, and I have plenty of his radio show tapes where he is really good (I wouldn't say amazing), but when he had the chance to show Australia what he is all about in a live club environment (remember that is how DJing started - live) the guy fell apart at the seams. If he is indeed "one of the best djs.. that will ever live", he certainly didn't show it when he was down here..
A valid point was raised earlier - there are plenty of sucker DJs still using vinyl, and plenty of good DJs using Microwave.. Microwave is not for me personally, I have found that I DJ better when I have the visual stimuli of flicking through a crate of records, even if I have to lug three crates of records through a crowded club, rather than scrolling through a list of 1000 mp3's on a laptop - but you can't front on the fact that the technology is here, and is changing the way professional DJs do their shit.
Ok, so I made some outlandish claims yesterday, lets not get all worked up over it.. all in good (and mildly intoxicated) fun..
but the part about aussie DJ's teaching him a a thing or two is all true (((dives for cover))) - alright I'm kidding!
What's so outrageous about the idea that there might be DJs anywhere in the world who have tighter DJ skills than Primo? Dude's a storied producer but he's never been known as some ill ass party DJ, has he?
One of things that was crazy about Mr. Cee's Guru tribute from the other month was how, towards the end of the hour, he was talking about, "you can't call yourself a hip-hop DJ if you don't have Gang Starr on your laptop."
Nice bump. I saw that thread topic today and I thought Premier had put out a new mix done on Serato and is owning the technology. I remember Preem saying something about how DJ AM was the best DJ on this technology.

I always get a kick out of things like this because it's like if Yo-Yo Ma released a CD titled:
Yo-Yo Ma
"No Talent Required"
Music made with an actual musical instrument
(with pictures of turntables and records in the back)
Dude's scared of technology.

No talent required??
Isn't it ironic that this is yet another release not available on vinyl?
That's not ironic. Most mixtapes back in the day weren't on vinyl either. There's no conflict there.
What's ironic, as my man Hsulu noted, is that the image was made in Photoshop.
Primo ain't keeping it photo-real!
I'd love to see you say that to his face, hahaha.
Immediately after you would need a
primo is one of the best djs and beat creators that will ever live you morons are totaly
