I WENT THERE ONCE AND IT WAS REAL PRETTY.
I can see this city. Liberal/Multi-Culti/Lifestyle Tolerance. I was there as a kid and liked the "feel" of SF. But I heard the cost of living is crazy.
I know it's got some very lame aspects, but I've lived here my whole life and like it. I will admit that it was 10,000x cooler before the 1990's, when every decent indy cafe, bookstore & movie theater was transformed into a Starbucks, Barnes & Noble & sports bar. There were at least 10 more record stores around here 10 years ago, too.
Okay, so maybe Boston does suck now, after all.
But one thing is for sure:
Based on sports teams though, Chicago BEANTOWN all the way.
Oh, and having said that, Chicago is my favorite city I visited. Reminded me of Boston circa 1986

1.) Memphis (for the food and southern-but-not-too-southern vibe) 2.) Houston (probably due to the nice family and nice hotel I stayed-- the Houstonian-- though I imagine I'd feel real at home in Austin) 3.) New Orleans (before the storm): most unique
Cities please! Like at least a population of 100,00, a downtown with skyscrapers etc! Astoria is quaint, a term that should only be reserved for towns.
