"Just a lickle soundsystem"
Ventured out to Scarborough for another wack of deep soul/funk and West Indian 45's..used my deep Scarborough terrain knowledge and went as the crow flies throught he parks. Nobody in the parks on a Saturday? Too busy at the malls I guess.Got to the gentleman's house and headed to the basemen to be greeted by a rather large amp rack and 45's as far as the eye could see. "Just a lickle system - me like it loud." he stated. Can anyone brighten these up - I hink I had the camera on the wrong setting.Dude had unbelievable taste and first hand Jamaican musical knowledge beyond believe (casual pictures of him and Bob Marley playing soccer at 10 years old sit amongst others of Dad, Mom, sisters and brothers). Now for the pornSee what I mean about first hand.Gawd damn this is sweet.Canadian mid tempo soul butter from '80.Hi Rob.Maybe my favourite tune from this lot. No idea where it's from, but I'd wager Detroit or Cleveland. Dante?Flip side instrumental (different rhythm) is mind blowing.Hi Rob.Funky gospel.Me likes.Hi Aaron.hi Rob. Funk coutesy longtime Trini drummer.hi Drew.Deep female soul. both sides.JA soul cut.Indy soul from California. Nice slow cut on here.Think one of these cuts aren't on the LP.Until the next time, K in Canada.

more likely a Milwaukee thang Kevin.
Are those some Mcintosh amps? Was he selling his gear too? Beautiful.
Thanks for the info, Meaty. Yeah, he had some MAc amps he was installing (making it bigger!). you should see the 60's bicycle he had.
Thanks for the lightening of the pics, too.

How's this?
Such a great song.
Nice track, have to pick one of these up I think...
the drums on that cut are insane, if only there was a break....
im surprised i have not only one but TWO of the 45s you posted for once...
He's got about 30,000 records he's keeping. I looking at them. He was just happy to see a fellow record junkie get all antsy and froth at that mouth....talk about how your wife/girlfriend doesn't understand you and how everyone thinks you're a freak...and how uncontrollable a disease you have. Despite the almost 30+ year age difference, it was like I was hanging with a brother or cousin. The ease of convesation is indicative of the 8 and 10 hour talks I had with him after the 2 visits respectively.
Humbled to say the least, K.
Straight fire, don't loose his number, lol. Decades worth of is what's really. Looks like he's keeping most of it in those likkle boxes though?
K.
did you meet him on the bus?
Don't ask me why they left Jackie Mittoo-signed originals???

Any of the older record store dudes remember a Bajan (from Barabdos) records tore owner named Theo coming down to Detroit for records in the 70's? PReetty well every killer soul 45 I've found in JA collection has a whole/partial stamp of his on there. Between him and Monica's, they were moving MAJOR records here in the 70's. Most by word of mouth/hand-dropped/phone-linked distribution system.

They wouldn't take it cuz of the writing on the label maybe, cuz it "devalued" the record
, K.
If you're talking about the Mosiac boxes, those are OOP and kinda pricey.
K.
my copy of this 45 has a black/color label, were there different issues of the 45?

cosign like a motherfucker... holy fuckeroney, this is the stuff of dreams.
well put.
and of course...
i can totally identify with that 'older collectro passing it along to younger collectro' vibe, ive been dealing on and off with: 1. a comic guy with uber-deep comic crates, were basically buddies now despite a big age difference, hes been breaking off his 'babies' to me knowing im holding onto them with no intention of selling or breaking up the collection, this has led to some pretty unreal 40's-50's sci-fi/horror scores; and 2. the 'storage space guy' who hoarded so long he no longer knows what hes got and whose health is starting to fade, we get along great talking about music, labels, pressings , etc, and though theres a major age difference, i can relate to him a lot better than many of my non-collectro friends - and most of my 'weekly finds' posts are a result of this connection and his willingness to let go because he knows im not scheming.
but regardless - game over, K wins!
Lp's as far as the eye can see.
45's yet to be seen.
A couple of these in the rack.
Ill 70's Phillips racer.
