nice movie... great soundtrack... i watched it with soulstrut's cosmophonic last time he visited me... the movie is a little hard to understand though. i had to watch it twice... i was drunk the first time though... the movie is not german. i think it's a french movie... at least the german reissue video tape is the french version (dubbed)... movie was shot in Istanbul? Turkey?
music by siggi (siegfried) schwab and manfred huebler... soundtrack taken from or released on two records...
The music is pretty cool, in the late 60s EZ beat style that I like with some psychy touches. Weird vocals throughout. I like Siggi Schwab's electric sitar playing.
I've never seen the movie, but I've seen some clips and it looked really bizarre. It would be a fun watch with a little smoke/drink on the side, I imagine.

Ha, that's the big question. Was it taken from or released on two records? There's more music on the releases so prolly it's taken from?
Any more Jess Franco recommendations?
I've seen several, but they all blur into one in my mind. The Awful Doctor Orloff was excellent. But it's the opposite of a "funky movie".
And I remember one that was especially weird. It was about a magician (Caliostro or something) who creates a bird-woman to attack Frankenstein. I checked it out and it was this one:
I am a bit worried. I used to have that video but I can't find it and I'm pretty sure I hid some top-secret files in the cover behind the video.
But anyway, any recommendations? I know they all have long stretches of dull material, but the ones that have aprox. 15-25 minutes of bizarro stuff I am interested to see.
the three--thats right THREE, vampyros lesbos are only the tip of the franco iceberg... dude had a zillion alias's often depending on what country he was filming in ... while Franco was spannish alot of his movies were joint co productions with other countries.. thus half the actors are speaking one language, the other half another and so on .. so the dubbign is always pretty wild.
i like his "sex" films almost more than his horror movies..but almost all his movies have a blend of whatever exploito genre was big at the time be it Mod, psychedelic, jazz, porn, horror, gore, cannibals, emmanuelle, etc etc
Eug??nie - aka de sade 1970 Virgin Report The Devil Came from Akasava - this is one of the vampyros lesbos movies Vampyros lesbos She Killed in Ecstasy - this is the third vampyros lesbos The Demons Justine and the Whip Love Letters from a Portuguese Nun
my two faves:
Bare Breasted Countess - like a much raunchier vampyros lesbos
A Virgin Among the Living Dead - one of the tippiest, dreamiest horror movies of al ltime.. one of my favorite movies ever
-Lucky, the Inscrutable. Secret agent stuff. It's originally a comic book.
-Jack the Ripper, with Klaus Kinski.
-El Caso de las dos bellezas (Two undercover angels - USA title and released on video as Sadisterotica) which might be something like Two Female Spies with Flowered Panties I reckon (see pic).
I've seen his concentration camp sex flicks too but I didn't like 'm so much. Dull and not sick enough to be a mindfuck. What was it called, Greta something. With that chick Dianne Thorn.
I've seen a doc on him too. Very low budget but fun. Nice character. Has some interesting theories on jazz. He did countless filmscores I believe. Lina Romay was in there too. She's his wife now.

It'd be interesting to read a bio on this guy. Any in-depth ones around?

There was one in a Dutch mag recently (Schokkend nieuws) but it's in Dutch. There's a huge chapter on Jess Franco in Pete Tomb's Immoral Tales book however from some 10 years back, which is a very nice and thorough book to own anyway, if you can still find it.

I think I got a german version divx version somewhere. I can look it up if you want.
About 8 years go they had a series where every friday night about 2am on Channel 4 they'd show a documentary about a cult european film maker followed by one of their films. They covered Jess Franco and showed Bare Breasted Countess. Also seem to remember them showing Dr Orloff as well. Great monster make up in that one.
Highly enjoyable film and the doc wasn't bad either, may have to rifle through my videos to see if i have it anywhere.

i don't need it. but others might.
i really like the movie, although my film making friend says the movie sucks very very much. just about anything in it seems to be terrible considering pro film making. i can partly understand, but i still like the movie.

I watched many foreign, subtitled films just on the chance that there might be some good nudity.
If I remember correctly, Vampyros Lesbos had a soundtrack...

Jeez, there's some inflation in the soulstrut ass department. That's a perfectly respectable European seventies butt.
That picture disc is the one to own 'cause there are extra tracks on it (probably with consequences for sound quality, but hey).
