I am going through an issue of Rolling Stone at work looking for CDs to order and I have to say this is some of the worst shit I have ever read, they think the reason Bush's approval rating has gone down is because of a Bright Eyes song, and I don't think their joking...Whats worse?

They may be the worst at ignoring something until it hits critical mass, only to then act like they invented what they are finally covering...aka carpetbagging.

I don't think there is any music magazine worse the RS. Plus, the fact that they are somehow viewed as the gold standard of music mags only magnifies their awfulness. Calling them 'irrelevent' is an insult to irrelevence.

my god that is so funny...and completely true...

but don't they all prety well suck? Honestly, i don't find anything other than commercial shit or underground guys wetting their pants over nothing bands. Oh....but Babyshambles is a real band...

  • cosign on RS.....completely laughable....in the top songs of all time issue, not one solo Cutis Mayfield song, in the greatest guitar players of all time issue Jack White beat out Eddie Van Halen...the fact they can even fuck up 70s and 80s stuff is ridiculous.

What's crazy is that Spin got sold today for $5 mill to a SF company. Keep in mind: the magazine was bought for $42 million just a few years ago and now it's only worth less than 1/8th of that? OUCH.

Not that $5 million is pocket change but seriously, I'm amazed anyone wanted to buy it at all. They need to just merge Spin and Pitchfork and be done with it.

This all said, I don't think Rolling Stone has been worse than The Source has been the last few years.

I was wondering the other day why Fader sucks so bad. Seems like the eds are in with a lot of knowing folks. I usually turn to the back pages for record porn in the "vinyl archeology" bit. There was one by Cosmo last year and a JP one recently. I test drove a Scion last summer and still get that shit. I think it's better than Fader though.

Mojo makes me buy too much lame 70s rock.

do you still have a subscription to Wire?

I feel like everyone sort of knew the Source was a joke. I mean, it was seriously like hip hop's National Enquirer for the last 5 years...just replace BatBoy with Benzino.

I heart MOJO - almost the only magzine besides Waxpo that actually writes indepth articles that combine good writing w/ good info

  • Bonds in a Thong.

  • The Source and Rolling Stone are obviously bad and out of touch. A shell of their former selves.
But you know what really blows? BLENDER! Maxim + Spin =

The innernets and forums like this where/are pretty much the nail in the coffin for the music rag industry.

That magazine blows. Sunday night, while I was cleaning out my closet, I came across a couple of old Blender, Source and URB issues.

I couldn't decide what to wipe my ass with.

Most disappointing mag has got to be The Fader. I loved it to begin with and now... well... let's just say that I don't even flick through it at Tower anymore.
