On some Crime Lab Audio Specialist request shit

Alright, so I like to think I'm decent at audio editing tasks, but I just came across one that isn't working out. I'm looking for somebody who's got serious skills in fucking with dirty audio. Basically, I got this cd of some recordings from a hand held mini tape recorder (one of them spy-on-you type shits) with some people talking in a car, and there's 2 people talking outside the car and you can barely barely hear them when listening, plus there's a multitude of tape hisses and sounds that make it difficult to hear anything. The people who hit me off on this need to get the conversation going on outside of the car loud enough to hear and translate (it's in spanish). I told these folks I'd have to hear it before telling them if I could do it for them or not. I don't think I can, there's too much noise and the people are speaking too quietly. It's for a court case. A very serious one. So, if somebody is seriously good at that kind of shit and wants a quick job, let me know and I will recommend you to these people.

    oh and no, it's not the cops. it's the defendant who's asking me to do this.

    What software are you using to edit the audio? Did you try removing the hiss/noise and amplifying the parts you want to hear better?

    Yeah I did everything I know how. The problem is that the conversation is going on outside the car, the windows are up, and there's 2 chicks IN the car talking at the same time so unless theres some crazy magical equipment out there (like in the fbi audio lab or some shit) that could somehow get past the upfront conversation, i don't even think it's possible. i am running soundforge 7.0 with some waves bundles and a delta44 pci card. nothing super special but it's gotten me pretty far....

    i would give it a shot, but this whole "recording of chicks talking outside a car in spanish to help a defendant" sounds real shady.

    yeah i thought about that too. it seems pretty scandelous. shit was for a murder trial, supposed to be evidence on this tape to help the defendent. from what i can tell by listening to the tape, some guy was with his homies and one of them shot somebody with a guage and snitched the homie who didn't pull the trigger. i guess there's evidence of that somewhere on this tape? crazy shit. now i'm gonna be sleeping with the fishes.
