Just before this stuff started getting reissued again, for years the Fania albums I saw the most were the really late ones from the Reagan era...especially that Ruben Blades elpee where he's dressed like a boxer and Willie Colon (or somebody) is dressed like his trainer, and they're holding their arms up as if to declare Ruben the champeen or something. I think this was from '83, right around the time Blades was the big salsa crossover hero for a MINUTE.
I remember a lot of Blades on the Do The Right Thing soundtrack (1989). I was like what, it's pronounced Blah-dez??
Also, there's some good early-mid 80s stuff from La Massacre and Willie Colon, where you even get the odd electro workout. Then it looks like it all became bootleged after that with the crappy green label.
Yeah, and doubles of "Plastico" is great dollarbinfun.

Yes. I think the switch came around 1969, but it's hard to say for certain because they didn't really start printing dates on the labels/sleeves until after the switch.
There was a brief window--probably just a few months--where they were still printing the gold labels but were employing the updated logo that everyone associates with the label.

Don't be a moron. Gold label Fania's are $$$, and very hard to find in good condition. There's not much difference in terms of sound, and very little difference in terms of date - you're talking 2, 3 years difference.
Be aware that the print quality really isn't what it should be for what he charges (they're vintage designs, but new posters)... but I couldn't be too mad at putting a little extra money in that dude's pocket.

my friend has the bat one and it is poster quality, its really small though (about letter size if not smaller), I don't know if they offer them in bigger sizes and what quality those would be.

Moving along, has anyone ever seen, or have, the gatefold cover to Barretto's Acid? If so, could you please scan/picture/describe it, I'm very much interested. I read that some of the first pressings came gatefold and some not, rumor?
