Well, if we're flossin' eBay finds...not S.O.U.L. of course, but I was pretty psyched when I came home last night and saw WHAT THIS ENDED AT , seeing how many times I had been outbid for it in the past, and the fact that it has been generally selling for $50-60...
I'm surprised it goes that high nowadays... before it got advertised as a 'BREAKZ' item it was consistently ~$10
some decent stuff from brooklyn salvation army today...45s are 3rd World Band on Abraxas (Tommy Stewart prod.), Maceo "parrty", K.C. and Sunshine band "blow your whistle" (killer!), Lonnie Liston Smith "get down everybody".
lps speak for themselves...funny to find Sebadoh "bakesale" at the thrift...the Gilberto/Caetano/Gal live record from 1974 is very nice.
atlantic ave...that place is soooooo hit or miss! but i've found some of my most prized records there like "love is the message rap". the caymi is fantastic! such a nice listen.

Word, I rarely hit that one because it's so dodgy. Copped a nice "Outstanding" 12 there a while back but nothing more.
With this weeks Citylink (free weekly newspaper/mag about south Florida entertainment) article on "groundbreaking" hip-hop producers that GASP sample "Old" records, I thought hitting the local spot would be a waste of time. Once again I was given dudes down here too much credit.

oh...and
Talib Kweli "get high just to get by" promo double 12" didn't grab this when it came out but it still sounds good to me...and the message is always appropriate
Bought 22 records for $18 (all I had in my pocket, wasn't planning on buying anything)...just kinda stumbled on this place. The kind gentlemen says I owe him $4 though. Mostly Blue Notes and related.
These were the best 3:
Okay, I'm sure most of you are already hip to We Insist, but I'd never heard the whole thing. That record seriously just blew my mind. That's one of my new favorite albums. It's so incredible (musically and socially) that it was recorded in 1960.
That thing at the top is an Isaac Hayes radio promtional disc from 72. It starts out with him talking, then theres a 15 second or so pause, then he answers a question that was never asked. He goes on for a good three minutes about why he shaves his head...and it just goes on like that. I'm guessing DJs used to act like they had Black Moses in the station and just play the record. I thought it was pretty funny, though.
what's the sound on that particular van van lp? good?
fear itself is a cool listen. probably the best thing i've heard of mcilwaine.
Yeah, I'm digging the fear itself more than her solo work.
The Van Van is solid if you???re into Cuban music. It has vocals on all the tracks, except one. Not really one for the "latin funk" crowd, but the playing is TIGHT!
I like this one much better...probably because of the Juan Pablo Torres production.
I'm still trying to find the one where dudes playing a bass on the cover. Can't recall if it's S/T or not. Any Help?
