I refer to the music played on smooth jazz stations as "yuppie jazz". Honestly though, you have to have a little surface-level stuff that those "non-jazz head" can chew when they visit (e.g., Michael Franks, early Jeff Lorber, Stan Getz, which is cool). Other labels I fling around are:
-that crunk shit.
-suburban or skateboard rap (e.g., Def Jux stuff).
-phony reggae (dancehall).
-sandal rap (PM Dawn, Arrested Development).
-R&B gospel (Kirk Franklin).
-bippy (e.g., young, ditzy college girls) music (Gwen Stefani, Britany Spears).
