As much as I don't like the other groups they're associated with, I really liked Silent Alarm by Bloc Party. Though I would hesitate to call it the best album of the year, it might have been the one I listened to the most.
1. gang gang dance - god's money 2. animal collective - feels 3. afrirampo - urusa in japan 4. ryan teague - six preludes 5. paavoharju - yha hamaraa 6. hauschka - the prepared piano 7. jesu - s/t 8. black dice - broken ear record 9. chouzu - s/t 10. es - sateenkaarisuudelma
what other album of his would you compare this to, i still love his first solo and wild wood, stanley road and after i can give a shit about
I'd say that it's probably his 3rd best album (my top 2 being the self-titled debut and Wild Wood). It definitely is his most soulful LP since Wild Wood. It's also his most diverse since his Style Council days as it contains a bit of everything: Jazzy pop, big orchestral ballads, Funk, and some good ol' punkish rock.
Even though Stanley Road contained some classic singles and was by far his best-selling album, I always thought it was a bit overrated. Some of the filler tracks on it plod along IMO. This new album has 1 track I don't really care for. The rest is butter.
gang gang dance - god's money sereena mannesh who made who maximo park - a certain trigger the coral - invisible invasion major swellings paavoharju - yha hamaraa lindstrom - ...another side of (though this isnt technically out till next year) Black Mountain

well, i am definitely biased toward it for personal reasons, but i think it's a remarkable record. the movement between the songs and the lyrics are especially interesting to me.

Rape Donks is up on Finnish stuff! Haven't heard Es yet, but Paavoharju is pure bliss.
My pick would be
Yeh, got to admit that this was a pretty entertaining album, plus the bonus CD of early made it a good value-for-money purchase.
Miles better than the very disappointing Daft Punk album.

Not nearly as good as their earlier efforts IMO. Boring, even.
