"Few movie soundtrack composers are perennially contemporary household names, but New York-born Jewish musician Bernard Herrmann, whose June 29 centenary is being celebrated with a year of CD releases and live concerts from Minnesota to Bristol, England, is a noteworthy exception."

Morricone probably for sheer volume and general quality.

That Jerry Goldsmith is a motherfucker.
Music is so beautiful and haunting and adds so much to the movie.
Apparently the original score was scraped, they called Goldsmith at the last minute and he got them a score in 10 days. Or some such story.
The 2 Our Man Flint movies, the Planet Of The Apes movies, LA Confidential, Man from UNCLE...
Maybe not GOAT, but right up there for me.
The soundtrack from Aguirre The Wrath Of God has been a favorite for a long time
The Great Ecstasy of the Woodcarver Steiner is maybe my favorite, but I don't think the music was ever released.
