It would've taken you that long? By the time it got to Tiny Tim my head would've been in the oven. But that's a damn impressive list, John. WOW. Did you dig all of those versions up yourself?

About a year ago I was on a road trip, listening to some suburban college radio station, and the DJ started a two-hour tribute to "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha Ha!!" by Napoleon XIV, with all the answer songs, parodies, covers both domestic & international, rip-offs, etc...at first I was like, "Geez this guy really knows his shit! This could be good!"
By the fourth version, I was reaching for the dial, screaming in pain...

No offense taken. Lucky I didn't do a show for "Yesterday".

Now that I would have listened to. All praise to Jerry Samuels.

Just a few of my faves... add on!

    O.C. Wright
    Ripple Blast Singers
    Overton Berry
    Sonny & Cher

I hate to be all classic rock, but the Beatles is the only version I really like.

Come Together has a lot of great cover versions that surpass the original.

    this has a phat break

  • But that's a damn impressive list, John. WOW. Did you dig all of those versions up yourself?

A third were from my own collection, another third were MP3's from some Beatles fanatics, and the other third were recommendations made here on this board. Someone here told me to get the version by Captain Milk on Tetragrammaton, and I was able to find out within a week. That went into the show.

"Hey Jude" happens to be my favorite Beatles song. I always had themes when I did my show, and I will always have musical puzzles throughout, in the hopes someone would know what the hell I'm doing. Always a cover version junkie, I decided to go all out and do this. 111 versions total, and for the three people who actually listened to the whole thing, each of them told me I had missed a number of their favorites.

  • Come Together has a lot of great cover versions that surpass the original.

Herbie Mann and Ike & Tina Turner's come to mind.

I like this term - and I engage in this practice, as well.

do u guys really hate the song or because of what it becomes when the 'nananana' part goes on for the life span of George Burns? I think its a dope song and perhaps that ending went on too long, but i still love it.

  • Dang, Ray.. you beat me to that location and avatar. I meant to do that a while back. That d**khead kills me, on the sidelines yellin' "I-LOVE-ME-SOME-ME!" NFL Films even did a song called "I Love Me Some Me" on one of their highlight shows and made it sound like T.O. was singing it.

BTW, your record was mailed yesterday, so keep an eye out.

  • am i the only person that hates this song ?

But when it gets going you can front on Sonny & Cher's version.

Thinks thats the only one I dig.

  • Overton Berry

there??s nothin to add, this version works perfect to me

  • My fav is the Clarence Wheeler & The Enforcers version (from "Doin' What We Wanna")

Co-sign on that one. Probably my 2nd favorite cover...with my first definitely being the Wilson Pickett version. Duane Allman kills it.
