I don't know where you guys are looking though.... I mean 99% of hip-hop vinyl is flooded right now. There are a lot of records that are rare, current and past.... but the vast majority is common (right now).
What you are seeing is just a trend - dealers and collectors think funk, soul, jazz is really hot... they are unloading it because there was a time when nobody cared. Now nobody cares about hip-hop records.... except the Japanese
RAER
What is this thread even about?
Dude is just reeling off anecdotal evidence of one sort or another about how he found some non-rap records for cheap, but has been unable to find certain rap titles.
We are now supposed to draw overarching conclusions about the nature of RAER or something?
No this is a subject I posted up for discussion and that's what I'm doing, discussing. If you don't know enough about the subject to participate then don;t get mad at me just move on.
Really, "faux_rillz." Just play your position. You don't know boo about Madlib and I doubt you even had a radio show in college.
I have one of these for you if your interested, it was part of a series of coloured UK P.E. promos that came in die cut sleeves, if your interested pm me, peas, IM
Yeah I ain't talkin about the Ying Yang vinyl....I'm talking about the good stuff.
Who's the snob here?
Is "the good stuff" akin to "that real schitt"?
The mind boggles at the thought of so many competing hierarchies of value.
We were talking about rarities as opposed to common records. And somehow Ying Yang was brought up which I consider very common. Didn't mean that I think it's shit, no you assumed that. Grow up.

Yeah I ain't talkin about the Ying Yang vinyl. There are a lot of private press Hiphop vinyl too and unreleased promos. I'm talking about the good stuff.
Manufactured raers? Doesn't matter. I'm not looking for that Clear Lake anyway that record still comes around.
Right then, you're looking for stuff like "Main Ingredient" Instrumentals and the Japanese "Searchin'" remix 12 and Ghostface "Goodtimes" white label 12" and shit like that right? UK only white vinyl "Shut Em Down Remix" and Big Daddy Kane "Set It Off" 12" and shitz.
is that Ghostface white label("Goodtimes") hard to find?
is that Ghostface white label("Goodtimes") hard to find?
The actual promo sounds like absolute shit- I couldn't imagine it collecting value for that reason alone
It's not expensive per se. It's tough to find for sure. I don't know which one you've got, Dig Dug, but the one I took home yesterday sounds great. It's a white label that says Ghostface Killah "untitled" though. with a dirty version.

the one I have says "demonstation" blah blah blah and simply says "Untitled" and has the reg, clean, inst and acapella but after doing a search on Ebay I saw there is one actually labeled "Goodtimes." which do you have?

I've found 2 or 3 copies of the OG promo (which is the 'untitled') and they all sound the same- all wrong. All distorted and muddy and shit. I assumed it was a mastering defect on all copies
Haven't actually compared any of the boots to it but they I always figured they could only sound better
I think the recording of it might be very lo-fi, beccause even mixtape versions I have sound a little muddy... the copy I have definitely sounds as good as any other I've heard though.
Don't think you can say a specific genre is raer. There are a gang of raer hip hop records, most being things u wouldn't think are raer. I can tell u a stickered US pressing of the 1st Fu Schnicken's LP is hard to come by. I see the pete rock promos mentioned earlier more often than that. There are raer records in ever genre. Forget raer. I find finding really clean copies of records of any genre to be pretty tough.

Yeah clean records can be a problem depending on where they come from. A DJ may cut a record to the bone and put stickers over lables or write tags all over it. James Brown records are usually beat up too. Depends what it is ya know.
Do you think Hihop vinyl is more rare than all those rare groove records everyone seems to be after? I've asked this question to close friends before and some of them agree that Hiphop is more rare, others don't. Considering that there are a lot fo Hiphop records I've never seen up for auction or at record shows compared to some of these ultra rare groove records that I see popping up everywhere. My brother found an orginal Billy Wooten LP for $3 bucks in a Virginia store a few years ago and just recently found a mint copy of Sun Ra's "Lanquidity" for $2. Hiphop records to me seem to be more scarce. Am I wrong?
well, the amount of copies pressed up doesnt matter. 500, 1000, blah blah blah. small labels or semi-small labels blah blah blah.
one reason why a lot of rap wont be super valuable is due to the amount of reissues currently out on your local record store. independent shit has been reissued. comps and comps of comps have been put out on vinyl and cd and tape. there will always be some valuable pieces but that goes with collecting of anything not just records.
and i dont think any one genre is more scarce than another. especially not rap because while the vinyl market did slow down production of wax it didnt slow down the number of copies folks wanted to press.
anyway... just saying i dont agree with your statement. and i found a copy of billy wooten for $1 once as well...

So have you ever found a copy of The Beatnuts "Sandwiches" 12" for $1 or a copy of Big Daddy Kane's "Ain't No half Steppin" promo 12" with the instrumental Dub?

Ross Hogg is on my Bay Area DJ snobbery hit list.
No I have one thanks.
It's jokes, Dude. Methinks you take the internets a little too seriously.

Out of context quote. Typical snobbery move.
Especially when neither will be raer in 2025....
Dude I got fifteen copies of Nolia Clap trust that

You all sleeping on Crib bootlegs? That's gonna be worth more than the og in 2025! All those hits w/ instrumentals!

Its one of the tracks that was cut from Bulletproof Wallets but the promos had already come out before the album

[color:red]Oh, Promo records. My bad. I haven't slept yet and things are getting blurry. [/color]
Damn I guess I need to start collecting those now too.
