  • I also associate mash-up with one of the songs being white music, like putting Rhinestone Cowboy over Africa Bambatta or Britney Speats over The Clipse or whatever.

i don't think anyone can fault djs for trying (and often succeeding) in "mashing up" white music and hip hop. however, i think race comes into play when promoters use "mashup" as a way to give their party a white identity. you don't see black promoters advertising mashup djs even though, as alieniverson said, hip hop djs have been doing this for years.

i am on dozens of email lists for black and white promoters. it seems as though "mashup" has taken the place of a lot of parties that used to be centered around house music. while many of these "mashup" djs are probably just playing hip-hop related sets, it serves the promoter better to say mashup, because that signals to the reader that this is a white party.

  • white party

    AWESOME!!!

  • a lot of you have obviously not gone to a party and danced with girls in a while.....
