  • i watched the video of that session the other day...utter madness. some guys were paddling in to the smaller ones, but it was mainly a tow session. during the same swell a guy died at 'ghost trees'... http://www.surfline.com/surfnews/article_bamp.c…

  • I have heard a few whispers as to the identity of the protagonist, and it sounds interesting. Also, i think there is a glimpse of the trouble maker in the background during the trailer (if you have quicktime pro, and download the highest def trailer…
  • Ive got the 'mr maniac' 12" somewhere ('97) and a couple of other bits, nothing back as far as that track though...nice!

  • It's gaining momentum out here in New Zealand. More and more nights popping up, radio shows etc. A lot of 50/50 drum n bass/dubstep gigs as a fair sized chunk of the market is drawing on drum n bass fans (jaded or otherwise) looking for a sound and …

  • i have an old valve powered suitcase reel to reel similar to this... it had a line in and out so i used to use it to run stuff through (really dry drums etc) to get a bit of life into them. really nice natural overdrive too when you throw a hot si…
  • Kjaerhus do a nice line of free plugs (classic series). the reverb is tasty and they also do a nice simple delay... http://www.kjaerhusaudio.com/classic-series.php also, 'dub siren' is a pretty good free delay... http://www.dontcrack.com/freeware/d…
  • Kinda keeping an eye on it. it's on at pretty odd hours here, so if its on, and im there, I'll watch. might get onboard a little more towards semi finals etc. it's a pretty big deal to a lot of New Zealanders though... (for example, at the local se…

  • A Guy Called Gerald's 'Black Secret Technology[/b]'yeah, this was a great album, ahead of the game at that stage. '28 gun badboy' also helped set the direction for early jungle. He's still at it (Berlin last time i heard) not doing drum n bass anymo…

  • with "samples" I referred to drum samples/breaks. of course drum and bass has never been cutting edge, when it comes to the use of samples in general. oh yeah, agreed. its going to take a while for it to move on from that. I find that it can limit…

  • the "future music" approach somehow lost its touch after, let??s say, 98. But I am still impressed how much the quality of production has evolved and how people flipped and chopped different samples from the early 90s onwards. I miss this level of …

  • I was going to write a nice long post about some of the ins and outs of the drum n bass scene at the moment, including some of the reasons it???s not looking so healthy to outsiders, how the proliferation of subgenres is kinda watering interest down…

  • "Poontang" off the Higher Than High LP is the greatest song about cunnilingus ever written, hands down. used to hate it 'til I ate it.
  • This is still one of my favourites, a couple of great twisted funk / disco'y tracks.
  • Recorded yourself? Single shots from breaks? Commercial sample packs? etc. I've kinda thought of doing the same thing myself, and have in the past made up some quite comprehensive breaks and samples packs and given them to guys who for whatever re…
  • It still has uses, although I would use it sparingly. I generally only use it in all caps at large point sizes with careful attention to kerning. I would still only use it if ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. and also a cosine on Helvetica Nueu.
