    I agree that it shouldn’t, but disagree that this was the main schism.

    Conscious rap might be the terminology, but what the so-called back-pack fans were harking after (at least on this board) was substance, personality and decent music. Cypress Hill never (IIRC) preached anything conscious, and most rap from the golden age wasn’t comparable to Public Enemy. I don’t know if there was a clamour within the black American community for more militant and “conscious” themes, I just wanted something listenable while some fellow Strutteurs were telling me I was at fault for not appreciating ‘Lemonade’ by Gucci Mane etc etc.

    Would love for some Strutters to crawl out of the woodwork and continue to beef it out over not being down with the kids, but if it isn’t clear by now that mainstream rap long ago became pop (instead of art), I don’t know what is. Which brings me to the author’s final assertion in defence of Kanye West. I just don’t buy it. Kanye is a clever marketer, but I don’t consider him to be (any more) even a musical talent personally, and his cozying up to Trump? West in a nutshell.

    Picked up the Music on Vinyl 180 gram reissue of Placebo - Ball of Eyes. The only OG copy posted for sale right now is listed for $1300. It's the only copy so they can ask what they want I guess. The sound quality on this reissue is really good though so I'm happy to have that for now.

    Messi anywhere but to the highest pay-cheque would be a nice surprise, but does look like he's going for the PSG money... and linking up with Neymar again. Chelsea? Hmmm. They're very good, but presently only got Harry Rednapp's grandmother Timo Werner up front? Giroud left, Lukaku wants back... they'll be up there. If Citeh get a striker (Kane or other*) and things click, they're still the top side IMO. Liverpool look like they need squad investment. That one injury to the admittedly brilliant and integral VVD derailed them, but if returns at the same level and Klopp gets a couple of extra options in I think they'll be back at it. Arse being out of it**, I'd like to see Leicester, and to a lesser extent Liverpool, maintain a top 4 presence but the spending of Man U, Citeh, and Chelski makes it hard to imagine. The only positives I can see about Grealish to Citeh & Jadon Sancho to Manure is that Southgate MIGHT TAKE THEM FUCKING SERIOUSLY IN FUTURE.


    * Grauniad had an article praising Ings as a wise investment, but no love for Bamford? I'd take him and sell Auba + Laca and free up some money for further squad investment. I'd also sell Willian + Pepe to buy Gunnarsaurus a new hat.
    ** I predict Arsenal will be 7th next May. Surprise me Arteta.
