    What's up everybody?  Happy New Year!  After much deliberation, I have decided to close the site on its 25th birthday (October 31, 2024).  I realize this place is way past its "sell by" date, but there have been a few moments where I thought I could spend time to revitalize the community and get back in the game.  Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon with other real world movez taking higher priority.  I would like to thank all of you (especially those who stuck around during in the lean years post 2012).  It means a lot.  I'll will try my best to post memories and give the site a proper send off... maybe do one last mix or two.  Godspeed everyone!

    Hey Raj,

    First, Happy New Year! Second, I am sad to hear this news.  Although I rarely visit the site these days, I still have a lot of fond memories of Soulstrut!  Even the times when Frank and I went at it lol!  Throughout it all, this has been a place for a great community of record collectors and music heads.  

    You will be sorely missed!  Best of luck with everything!

  • Strata Records Film Documentary

    So I’ve been contemplating the thought of truly documenting the history and legacy of Strata Records, but I haven’t been able to realize a way to do so. Some of this is due to my negligence and some due to not being able to secure funding or the right situation.

    However, I really want to document their rich history. Therefore, I am reaching out to solicit help in securing funding to film a documentary on the history and legacy of Strata Records. I want to do this soon as many of the original members of the Strata collective are no longer with us, and those that are still alive are advanced in age.

    I’m also open to any and all suggestions for securing funding and backing for the documentary. So if anyone has any suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me! You can contact me at info@180-proof.com

    I am very excited to announce that I have created a three-part lecture series about the legacy and impact of jazz, hip-hop, and race to include:

    *Fat Beats: The Resurgence of Vinyl and the Age of Independent Hip-Hop

    *My Discovery of the Charles Mingus Master Tapes, and the History of Strata Records

    *Embracing Realities: Hip-Hop and the Intersectionality of Race and Cultural Appropriation



    Each lecture is designed to educate the uninitiated, and elucidate the informed and curious.


    Each lecture will be one hour and a half featuring rare and exclusive audio and visual footage from my extensive archives.
