I continue to be interested in whether horrorfilms or other genre films get into what's happening in Iraq. Now I've read about two films that do explicitly. One is by Joe Dante, Homecoming, and it's about American soldiers who come back out of the…

I've seen that movie and it wasn't bad. Pretty interesting. But thanks for the tip. Weird there hasn't been a western movie on the subject yet (I think...). The remark about the change in documentary audience is interesting. Gonna ponder on that o…

Thanks for the reply. It's clear enough for me! I think you are probably right, about the diminished shock value of violence. Still, there are many films from the 70's that you could not make nowadays, or well, you can - Murder-Set-Pieces proves…

This is a really strong record. It's also worth checking out the film to see Curtis bust into falsetto song in a circle of fellow inmates who are feelin' it. That movie is intense. Very good indeed.

Ha ha, I missed Grope's earlier link. This is great stuff. It made my day. "Respekt! Gibts das auch als Klingelton?"

There's also a common late reissue of "Krzysztof Komeda - Astigmatic". Is this cool? I see Stanko plays on it. Is it free jazz or what? That reish is sitting in a store nearby, but they don't have a listening station so I never picked it up.. …

I can hip you to these: "Maryla Rodowicz - Sing Sing" is easy to find. It's soulful pop. sample 1 sample 2 "Novi Singers - Bacharach" is nice too and should be possible to find. There's also a common late reissue of "Krzysztof K…

- Did a trekking in Yemen. - Removed a "meat-tree" from my father's shoulder with a sharp knive. - Had a band when I was 10 and we appeared on TV and radio. - Wrote one article on Indian porn and one about Pakistani gore/porn flicks for an Eng…

I just found a great, unknown Jazz/Funk record on a tiny German label. I have never seen the record before. One of the tracks off the LP is "mind-blowing". It instantly became one of my favorite songs. While looking for some other records by the sa…

I haven't seen many films that were nominated so I can't compare, but I wonder, do people think Munich should have gotten the oscar for best movie? I enjoyed that movie on many levels, thought the cinematography was among the best I've seen in many …

Even if there was no proper release originally, it seems strange in this day and age that people haven't found the source material and reissued his lesser known soundtracks. I've heard they used the studio tapes again and again so the only source…

Nice topic! I love Duke Ellington's work from pretty much every period. I hate "Take the A train" and that kind of crowd pleasers as much as anybody else but there are so many adventurous, eerie, dreamy, agressive, grooving tracks recorded by him b…

Yes, I have the feeling it's a cult too. But the people I know who follow this aren't exactly the most stupid. So I'm willing to give it a chance to at least understand it. But I've heard creepy stories were you are encouraged to get your whole en…

He's not really a performer, but I think there's a great film in this guy's story and hoaxes.

Another good choice for a coffee makers is the kind that brews it straight into a thermos type device. Burner type coffee when left heated builds up the tanic acid in the coffee ruining the flavor. Yeah, forgot to mention that. This is almost as go…

Do you heat up the Illy cup before pouring in the espresso?

This makes nice coffee but you drink more actual coffee residue which can get to your head and stomach. Same with perculators. I personally can't drink to much of it without having my heart beat fast and sounds of the ocean in my ear. I use a simp…

I know what you mean, Batmon. I like that kind of music a lot. Here's a weird version of Batman by the Liverpool Scene. It's great IMO. Batman Theme

I found a huge pile of 10" library records that play at 78rpm but with an ordinary microgroove needle. I think most library records were released like this untill the end of the sixties. Anyway, I found a whole collection and bought all out-of-the-o…

This is the only record I have on my wall for a while now. Record is a very rare soundtrack for two sixties german films. One is about abortion ("es" means "it", I guess refering to the unborn child). I don't know why I like to have this in sight. I…

How was Gary Busey? Well, I am a bit worried about his health frankly. He looks terrible. He doesn't get that much screen time, but he does the job. Not bad. I just found out Jake Busey is Gary's son. Never knew.

Apparently nobody has seen this yet? I went anyway yesterday. Eh, "interesting" experience. I have no idea why voices are being raised to ban this in Germany. It's anti-American, sure. But what a hoax. It's sort of a mirrored Chuck Norris film. Amer…

Funny. But for real: switching between doing art on the computer and on paper, I did on some occasions do foolish things on the physical art because I felt like I could hit the "undo" button. Oops.
