From lunch break yesterday at Twisted Village:

Does not seem OG, looks like a boot...it was cheap, though.

Pretty cool little comp LP of offbeat christian stuff. Not quite as obscure as it could be, but there's some gems on here, and it mixes styles nicely, with garage bands and soul jazz sermons and pat boone rapping about junkies over congas...

From a yard sale today, all $1:

    Shaft's Big Score - OST - MGM
Kinks - Kink Size - Reprise (mono OG)
James Brown - Hot Pants - Polydor (minty in shrink - double (triple?))
A Frames - A Frames 2 - SS (nice! couldn't find this limited LP in stores, but get it a yard sale for $1??)

From eBay in the mail today:

Ronnie Bird - 62 to 66 - Decca (France)...nice comp LP of the 60's garage rock master of France, covers of Pretty Things, etc, with Mickey Baker on guitar!

And a belated birthday gift from my man OT (thanks M*k*!):

What's the deal on this one? A friend of mine asked me to keep an eye out for this. Apparently he found a copy for $60. Is that a good price?

I haven't listened to this in a pretty long time, but from my recollection it is so-so, goofy, somewhat amateurish psychsploitation. Nothing special from what I remember. I think there was some Kim Fowley involvement to.

  • SoulOnIceSoulOnIce 13,027 Posts
Yeah, I was a little let down by it. Definitely the Fowley influence, too (he did some production it and gets writing credits on a few songs) - if you know his solo stuff, where he just kind of rants over music, it's along the same lines. It's not awful, but the songs all sound very alike, and it has a goofiness to it that takes away the edge the song titles would suggest. Glad I didn't lay out big $$$ for it, although I do like it well enough.

  • Picked up only 1 record worth mentioning
"Alkebu-lan Land of the Blacks-Live at the East -Mtume Umoja Ensemble (strata east)

and a lot of shit to resell at my market stall( mainly classic rock).I find it easier selling lps i am not particulary into and there are alot of old hippies in my area searching for some blues/folk/psych rock

Well I never post in this thread but I'm feelin' good.
Sitting in my new chair listening to Pookah (DOPE!).

    - Digital Metronome with much desired headphone jack. new in box - $3
    - Realistic/Casio SK1 sampling keyboard brand new in box with manual - $3
    - Mid century Eames knockoff lounge chair - $10
    - Pookah, Stillness, Aphrodite's, and a bunch of modern soul & disco LP's & 45's - all for around $15

Good times. I've been looking for that Pookah and finally got it today. It's everything I expected. I love swaps and yard sales. Word.

Got a call at work this morning from a friend who said her next door neighbor (the little old Jamaican woman) had passed away and that they were putting all of her stuff out in the hallway. She spotted some records thought I might be interesed. I left the store in cab and within 45 minutes was back at the store with over 100 LP's all for free (excepting cab fare). There was only one Jamaican record (I.R.A. by the Revolutionaries) but I did manage to get (in great shape):

Jimmy Castor - It's Just Begun
    Muhammed Ali Fights Tooth Decay
The Sylvers - Sylvers II (Pride)
    Bobby Whitlock - S/T (Dunhill)
The Rugbys - Hot Cargo (Amazon)
David Ruffin - Feelin' Good (Motown)
    Faith - S/T (Brown Bag)
    Pigbag - Getting Up 12
    OST - Tough Guys
John Kasandra - Beautiful New World (Respect)
Crow - Crow by Crow (Amaret)
Paulo Mauro - Blazing Brilliance from Brazil (Tangerine)
V/A - SIGNED DC (Satan) super cool DC garage comp from 1984
    Cactus - Restrictions (Atco)
Pacific Gas and Electic Starring Charlie Allen
Dennis Coffey - Goin' For Myself
    OST- Across 110th Street
Mouth and MacNeal - How Do You Do (Philips)
Agent Orange - When You Least Expect It
Buzzcocks - Best in Good Food (bootleg)
Shorty Long - Here Comes the Judge
Ike Turner - A Black Man's Soul (Pompeii)
Cannonball Adderly - Soul of the Bible (Capitol)

and a bunch of other store staples (Zeppelin, Kiss, Michael Jackson, etc.)
    Yippee!

I love this record. How raer is it? I found mine a few years ago in a local flea. "Where Are You Going to My Friends" sounds like something Lenny Kravitz would love to cover/steal and I mean that in a good way.

It's fairly hard to track down - "Nobody's Got TIme" is my track, but you're right, the whole album is amazing piece of art. The general consensus is that Eddie is "Electric Avenue" and "Tim Warp", but he's got some crazy funk 45's, wicked soul, boogie and other tracks starting from his days in Guyana. My freind from there gave me the Eddie Grant stamp their government issued the other day.

Luckily for me, Ice had an office in Toronto and the album was pressed here (I used to have about 50 or so sealed copies of it) - I just bought the Barbados press to see if there was a different mix.
