why are most Haitian records ignored by the record illuminati ?

i have a small but solid collection of hatian lps i've acquired over the years
but i rarely see them gripped or sweated like say???african or latin and it contains large elements of both genres
what will it take for this to become stylin?
some french dj in paris?

    well a lot of them have 8-bit/atari sounding keyboards on them that ruin the otherwise fine tunes...that might be the reason. But yeah, their love of guitar delay and hypnotic rhythms make for some mighty fine records. But Im thinking the timbre of the keyboards on a lot of them and sometimes cheesy, almost cartoon-like melodies turn a lot of folks off.

    This is a record dude's dream come true: a solid genre of music that is by and large overlooked by many.

    Or are you just mad you can't sell them for $$$ ?

    being in montreal i have more access to them
    although miami is probably a goldmine and NY must not be too shabby
    The older more mornfull stuff is the best but there is a lot of synthy corn
    it must get sandbagged with calypso by most

    Haiti isnt fetishsized like Salsa/Latin/Boogalo and Africa The Dark Continent.

    Create a Haitian Fela, Bob Marley, Fania label and your go to go.

    Or just create a party where the records are played. Or play them alongside other shit.

    I've been getting some requests in the shop for Haitian LPs. I think it's on the come up. Good konpa records are killer. Whenever I find that stuff, the records are pretty trashed. It's out there though.

    There's definitely a small group of cats collecting them... occasionally they sell for money online if one or another dude doesn't have it.

    I recently dropped a Shleu Shleu song for a Latin-oriented crowd which killed and had 3 different people come up over the course of the night to ask me what it was as they didn't recognize the language.

    Dancing to kompa is the best IMO!

    I can think of at least 2 or 3 NYC/Strut record illuminati who are deep, deep in to the Haitian vinyls. I guess it's like the Hells Angels.

    I found a Coup?? Clou?? record early in my digging career. Very Congalese sounding.
    Never found another Hatian record that good again.

    On the folkloric tip I seem to remember Cook having the heat.

    if u don't know what u'r looking for these records can be disappointing, it depends on the style your looking for.
    maybe they are ignored because the people who're selling them aren't promoting hard enough.

    well folks looks like the NEXT BIG THING has been identified. Let the frenzy COMMENCE!

    but seriously, I ebayed a couple Tabou Combo and Shleu Shleu LPs a couple years back that went for around $300 a pop -- all of which went to France. So apparently the interest has been there for at least a little while now.

    Even though I live in Montreal, the absolute best way to get your hands on really incredible haitian records is to listen to all the DJ mixes which include haitian tracks, then listen to the lyrics and try to identify the potential song title, then search that song title on either www.konpa.info or musique.haiti.free.fr or www.antilles-mizik.com and then after simply buy the LP on www.cdandlp.com for less than 20-30 euros... but that's me! ;)

    This thread is just a part of the conspiracy by the record illuminati to create a new "Hot" genre and pump up the prices. Just bummed I didn't buy more haitian heat in Florida. When do the record illuminati have their meetings and how do i join.
