The strut loves a top list debate (More so when the list sucks). And I know what type of listener NME caters to.
But Muse's Hysteria??? Really? Is there anyone on this board that would give that song the title?

Dont they mean Bernard Edwards on Good Times?
Muse is godhead. the Philly sound was a flash in the pan
That guy sucks... What Up Wolf.
This from Knowledge Me by Original Koncept - '86.
(even though a friend tells me it was lifted verbatim from a New York Rock Ensemble song)
"Summertime," Ricky Nelson
(even though it was lifted verbatim for the Blues Magoos'"We Ain't Got Nothing Yet")
"Got To Find A Way," Otis Clay
(original 1960s version on the One-derful label)
Walking Johnny Eck is the GOAT avatar.
also bonus, there is a Little Milton track which crops up in my car semi-regularly where the bassline is so on point & just a great example of melodic fingerstyle soul bass. "Let's Get Together".
This list is a joke right? No Charles Mingus, Ron Carter, Bernard Edwards, Bootsy Collins, Verdine White, Jaco Pastorius, James Jamerson, Freddie Washington..... C'MON SON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YES
Mingus wrote ALL OF THIS. Note just the bass line. AMAZING.
Simple, yet still great:
Real NICE!
Beat me to it - no room for the song it ripped off.
Also, does Orion even have a bassline to speak of? Always sounded like a fairly regular one-note hard rock chugger to me, although I rarely listen past the four-minute mark anyway.
joe henderson "black narcissus"
freddie hubbard "red clay"
marcus belgrave "space odyssey"
david matthews "sandworms"
brass construction "changin'"
donald byrd "dominos"
al hudson "spread love"
first choice "love thang"
and yes to the whatnaughts... it was a happy day when i finally managed to play it properly.
shout out to james jamerson too. can't really have a discussion of basslines without mentioning him (although i think someone did already mention abc...)
