    personal favourites.

    a few classics.

John Coltrane ??? A Love Supreme
Lou Reed - Take A Walk On The Wild Side
    Liquid Liquid ??? Cavern

Picking a JA rocksteady/reggae/dub/dancehall favourite might take a bit more thought.

Returning to the piece itself, it appears the list is actually from a completely different website. So NME.com can't even come up with its own ridiculous, crappy filler articles.

I thought so as well. Amazingly mobile, he was.

Can't believe no-one has mentioned this masterpiece yet. BASIL FEARRINGTON on the bass, IIRC.

    Good one, here it is:

This is another mindgarden pick, but from the Michael Jackson "This Is It" documentary, the tour bass player was killing it on the "What About Us" rehearsal so much he got some camera time. The Youtube clip is kinda crappy, worth listening to on a home theater:

List is bullshit, as is the idea that you could do a feasibly conclusive 'best basslines of all time' list

and this thread needs more bootsy

Also, does Orion even have a bassline to speak of? Always sounded like a fairly regular one-note hard rock chugger to me, although I rarely listen past the four-minute mark anyway.

It's an interesting selection. Imagine the conversation going like this:
    Who is the best bassist?
    Cliff Burton!
Dude his solo in 'Orion' So good
    RIP!

You do get a certain amount of Immortality Cred by going out early and to take nothing away from Masters of Puppets, which speaks for itself, Metallica isn't really the most bass-centric venue. And of all-time? No. I'd be curious as hell to know the author of this list and his motivation. Muse, best bassline ever?

And it would be remiss not to drop something by your boy Scott LaFaro:

Cosign on Patrice Rushen "Forget My Nots." I'm man enough to admit my first memory of that song is from "Big" and also secure enough in my manhood to say that inner-pubescent-style Tom Hanks jumping on a trampoline with Elizabeth Perkins in an unbelievably sweet NY loft apartment still kinda gives me chills. ... The clap, the little sax solo, that slap bass, the keys, the chorus, i'm down.
