Say what you want about Wes Anderson but the beginning of Royal Tennenbaums is amazing.

Sidenote: If you like Wes Anderson's work check out the British movie "Submarine". It is similar styled and terrific.

  • Hands down, Super Troopers.

  • GOOD ONE

  • the first 13 minutes of There Will Be Blood were brilliant to me, zero dialog and still works.

    and a personal fave

  • two really fucking cliche'd cinematic things:

    1. the dramatic-bank-heist-as-opening-scene-for-a-bank-heist-movie

    and

    2. the spooky-mask-on-bank-roppers-while-rolling-through-the-city-prior-to-heist

Not surprisingly considering how utterly cliche'd the entire terd-of-a-movie was, "The Town" employed both of these tired devices.

Dark Knight gets a pass 'cause it was actually a good movie.

Not that it's some incredible film, or even such an amazing opening scene, but the beginning of the third Die Hard movie stuck with me for some reason. Lovin Spoonful playing over all the shots of NY in the summer, suddenly interrupted by that giant explosion on 6th Ave, I still always think about it when I see that Container Store or whatever that building is now.

While its technically not an "opening scene"...but a "opening title sequence", i liked this for its insane nerd-cred.

  • Way of the Gun has a good one.

There's too many to name but I always liked the opening scene of the first Scream movie. And, Desperado & The Usual Suspects were pretty ill too.

The opening of Scream 2 (the movie theatre sequence) was pretty good too.

the first 10 minutes of the remake make it far superior to the original as far as the zombie genre goes

    My #1 too.

Also, the swimming pool / Scorpio rooftop intro from the first Dirty Harry blew my mind the first time I saw it as a teen and it still does. Sets up the mood of the film perfectly. Image and sound fit like a glove. Tip o' the hat to Don Siegel.

Was trying to think of the title of this as I was scrolling down this page. Great one.
Some fantastic quotes too, although probably not location worthy.
