If you could trade places with one "one hit wonder" who would it be?

Mine choice would be "Wild Thing" by the Troggs. That song was so cool for the times. I bet they got a lot of tail.

The Troggs had several hits and were a pretty successful band, I don't think they really qualify as One Hit Wonders.

  • Yeah you are probably right.

  • start a one-hit wonder thread. like REAL one-hit wonders, where the band/artist never went on to do shit commercially afterwards.

which was the all-time best one-hit wonder?

^All those guys may have had only one top 40 hit, but they all went on to record more successful lps and tours below the top 40 level.

Unlike say, Zager and Evans. Who I do not want to trade places with.

  • i'll bet harvey danger snags all kinds if top shelf tang at karaoke spots across north america.

Either Aldo Nova or Neneh Cherry.
Or Autograph..who opened the 1984 tour with Van Halen. 1980s second-hand Van Halen rejected groupie action for days.

I think 'buffalo stance' and 'seven seconds' were both pretty big, right?

Wasn't 'Manchild' a decent hit for Neneh Cherry off of the 1st album. I think it was co-produced by Massive Attack

i think if you are talking one hit wonder "Cherry's" you need to mention the brother first for "Saaaave Tonight".....
not that i'm saying i'd trade.

I think most people only know her for "buffalo stance" and that was why i figured she was fair game. This is of course a US-centric view of things. And i think old EagleEye would also more than qualify as well.

Seems like the more the world is connected, the more the idea of "one-hit wonder" becomes less and less clear. For example...Mr Big had one hit in the US with "be With You" and then dropped off the US radar and has been relegated to One Hoit Wonder status and yet they enjoy a HUGE following in Japan and had many hits there after that song was done in the US. Not that i would want to be Mr Big.

Are you the guy who said that Sly Stone got laid too?

I don't get this whole thinking. Everyone gets laid. (Except that orangeyogurt guy who used to post here.)
Teens get laid, and seniors get laid. Beautiful people and ugly people. Skinny people and fat people. Smart people and not so people. Straight people and gay people. Talented people and klutzes. Rockers and folkies.

It is true, that the more famous, powerful, rich, you are the more people hanging around who are desperate to sleep with you. And that can be fun, and certainly makes things easy.

I guess the point is, they didn't make a lot of money off their hit, but the one night stands were memorable.
The money is gone, but the burning and itching remains.

PS: Sorry, I am in a crappy mood today.

Neneh Cherry is not a one-hit wonder to me.

    Manchild
    Buffalo Stance
    Kisses on the Wind
    Buddy X
I Got You Under My Skin
    Money Love
    Inner City Mama

In varying degrees, but all successful/wide singles.

I can't name one song by her brother.

    (Gettin' Laid by a) Manchild
(Gettin' Laid in a) Buffalo Stance
Kisses on the Wind (Prelude to Gettin' Laid)
(Gettin' Laid by My) Buddy X
I Got You Under My Skin (Where We Get Laid Together)
Money Love (aka Gettin' Laid and Gettin' Paid)
Inner City Mama (Gettin' Laid Postlude)

In varying degrees, but all successful/wide singles.

Okay...but i still would have liked to change places with her BITD.

Im assuming that the idea behind this thread is to change places with a OHW when they were in thier prime...as opposed to trading places this them now. Right?

I would trade places with any OHW hack who can make a living by collecting royalty checks for their cheesy ballad, as long as I wouldn't have to sing it over and over again at Six Flags for the rest of my life.

  • I wish throwaway pop/rock tracks were still as cool as this

The second time was a bad joke.

    2/10 for execution.

Steve Martin. But I'd still be funny, and not only on Letterman.

i say this only bc a friend of mine's father has a great story about meeting moulty w/ a groupie BITD, so i figure if one were to be any one hit wonder, why not be moulty...

I'd trade place with this guy then and now.

Apparently this is one of the biggest single in the history, and as he also wrote the song he's still making 1000 ??? A DAY in royalties, licence fee etc...Not to mention that dude used to have Madonna as a live-in concubine when she was 20.

My only problem is that I would have to hear this song all the time.
