This list. is from wikipedia.

I wouldnt call Dennis Hoppers Colors a hood film. I wouldnt even call Do The Right Thing a hood film either.
Are those two the only late 80's precursors to the genre?

I just saw Fresh this week and it holds up really well.

whats missing?
Living Large.....what happened to Afrika Baby Bam's acting career?
Roll Bounce?
Training Day?

What holds up, what dont?
Trapped In The Closet....................

Training Day is on there. I guess this all depends on your definition of "hood films"? Is it films enjoyed in the hood, taking place in the hood, or straight HOOD? Comedies seem to be completely absent from this list (Friday series, Don't Be A Menace)

seems like cases could be made for

    Zebrahead
Just Another Girl on the I.R.T.

and if we're opening it up to foreign responses to American hood films, French titles like La Haine/Hate and the lesser-known Bye Bye should be up there.

The Wood is one of my favs. It's a lot better than half the other movies on that list.

I forgot about Strapped. I remember it being cheesy back then. Probably even worse now

In time certian flicks were made that were for Black Folk but not centered around the "hood", like G which is based in the Hamptons and is based on the Great Gatsby. Richard T. Jones vs Blair Underwood.

along those lines are Love And Basketball, Waiting To Exhale, and anything with Taye Diggs.

    gotta be careful.
