Dap Kings collectively has to be a contender.

    Rod Temperton.

Mick Jagger. I just watched the TAMI show and dude followed James Brown and tore the place down.

Yes on Roy Head! I've met him even and he's funky to the fullest.

    Also, Dr. John.

this track has gotta be up there for funkiest white boy consideration. early hard funk biting james. even trying to mug like him on the 45 label.

bonus: this guy is from boston and so is the guitarist on the track.

He actually sounds more Wilson Pickett on this, but it's funky regardless.

i hear that. i'm hearing james at times and the groove is definitely james inspired but you're right the vocal delivery. it is way more wilson pickett influenced.

With all due respect, you're probably one of the few people who think following JB with the Stones was a wise decision. I love the Rolling Stones, too, but...

I'm sorry, but when I hear the word "funky" David Axelrod and Galt MacDermot do not come to mind.

I wish I could find a clip from the Hair documentary where Galt says, "I like funky music". I think Galt is very funky.

    The TAMI show?
James Brown had just put on the most amazing show leaving the audience exhausted and confused, and then the Stones, who had yet to write any of their best songs yet, came out and did an electrifying set.

Are you seriously suggesting that Roy Head or Dennis Coffey could have come out and done a better job?*

    * I know you are not.
