Biggest drop off from one album to the next

I put on Sandanista! today and instantly remembered how bad it is, especially after London Calling. Talmbout falling off a cliff there. Dudes were on a 4.5 star, 4.5 star, 5 star streak, then...

    so true. Last year I decided to listen to it after giving it a good 8-9 years between listenings...a true terd. Perhaps a one sided 45 of "Police on my back" instead of this LP would have been better.

    It's like the whole album is made up of tracks that weren't even good enough to be filler on London Calling. Amazingly bad in context.

    I think you're looking for acts that hit a brick wall coming off a good run, as opposed to dudes who fell off after a classique debut, but when you talk about falling off a cliff, I can't help but think about this sorry pair.

    Thriller > Bad.

    Maybe my tastes changed in the 5 years between but I ceased to aspire to anything he did off that.

    Paycheck so angry cos he know it true.

    Also Midnight Marauders > Beats, Rhymes and Life. I know BRL was all JayDee but there was no magic on that set.

    as long as it did take me to warm to BRL, those are sometimes the best albums, but not in this case IMO. it had some definite strong tracks, but overall it has a sleepy vibe. especially towards the end of the album. i don't even know how 'stressed out' was a single. it is totally lethargic and a real downer to me. so yeah, good call in certain aspects!

    something about the melody to lost in the supermarket always gets the theme to 'growing pains' stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

    Born in the USA to that live box set or Tunnel of Love, which ever was next.

    I am talking about commercial drop off, not artistic.

    Bad has some good MJ moments. OTW, Thriller, Bad each seem to be aimed at a slightly younger demographic than the one before.
