A friend posted this question on Facebook: some albums are 100% perfect, pulp's 'different class' is one of them. i'd like to hear yours...

My answer:

Too many to name. Off the top: Marvin Gaye - What's Going On, Stooges - Fun House, Stooges - Raw Power, Most of Led Zeppelin's output, most of Velvet Underground's output, Nas - Illmatic, Main Source - Breaking Atoms, Mclusky - Mclusky Does Dallas, Thirteenth Floor Elevators - The Psychedelic Sounds of..., Thirteenth Floor Elevators - Easter Everywhere, Chocolate Watchband - Inner Mystique, Love - Forever Changes, Can - Ege Bamyasi, Curtis Mayfield - Curtis, Damon - Song of a Gypsy, David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, Edan - Beauty and the Beat, Wu Tang Clan - Enter the 36 Chambers, Ike Tuner and the Kings of Rhythm - A Black Man's Soul, Isaac Hayes - Hot Buttered Soul, The Modern Lovers - ST, Pixies - Doolittle, Rocket from the Tombs - The Day the Earth Met Rocket from the Tombs, Brian Eno - Here Come the Warm Jets, Television - Marquee Moon...and if you gave me a day I think I could come up with plenty more.

What you got?

Albums that are perfect. It's still completely subjective, but if there's a false note or a skippable track, it doesn't belong here.

I think "perfect" is an interesting filter... I love the Beatles and the Kinks, for instance, but I couldn't think of an album by either that doesn't have at least one track I dislike (let alone one note).

Sayin'. I was trying to think of a Kinks album, but they're really more about a wide breadth of quality material. Even Village Green has some clunkers.

agreed... without the track lists in front of me, I'd venture that Muswell Hillbillies is probably their closest to a perfect album -- but still decidedly not perfect, and certainly not my favorite. Something Else may do it for some, but I'm in the minority (I think) in disliking both David Watts and Death of a Clown.

Yeah. And no tracks where you'd say "I really like that song, but they could have wrapped it up a minute or two earlier."

if it's just 'perfect' albums and ones you necessarily enjoy, you'd have to include the super pop mega smash 50 platinum ones like fugees the score, alanis morisettes 'jagged little pill' and def leppards 'hysteria' though..... double digit single releases on one album is some heavy shit.

    weezer blue album?
