Found this one today and was wondering when did this phenomena of High School Jazz Bands releasing LP's begin??
This one from '67 is the oldest one I can remember seeing.

There's one listed here that goes back to 1965:

  • I think high school band records have been around since the invention of the custom record label. The oldest one I have is from 1963 but this century catalog lists some High school LPs from the 50s:

edit: oops I read your first post wrong, I thought you meant high school records in general.

Is there a HS Band Compilation and/or series?

    If not, then why?

    Licensing is next to impossible.

I would guess that high school jazz bands would have been an unusual thing before the early/mid 60's. Jazz was still a disreputable music in a lot of people's eyes until the break through of artists like Dave Brubeck and Miles Davis in the late 50's.

"Johnson, Klitzman & Funk" sounds like the law firm in a Mel Brooks movie.

Can't remember who posted it on here, but there was one called T.I.M.E. Todays Individual Mind Expression Valley High School that was pretty funky

I only heard a few tracks on it, but remember wanting to hear the rest
