Inspired by Batmon's Lizard King thread who are the most popular musical icons of the last 50 years based on their sales of T-Shirts to generations who weren't necessarily around when the artist(s) was at the height of their popularity?

Elvis
Beatles
Stones
Jim Morrison/Doors
Grateful Dead
Bob Marley
Jimi Hendrix
Pink Floyd
The Ramones
Tupac

Who deserves to be in that Top Ten and who would you remove in order to add them to the list?

I am sure I have seen many, many more Iron Maiden and Misfits t-shirts than Sex Pistols t-shirts....

Black Sabbath's Mob Rules t-shirt was all over the place back in the day.

Same for Dead Kennedy's Holiday in Cambodia and the Cramps' Bad Music for Bad People t-shirts.

Fela is the new Bob Marley

    Biggie runs concurrent w/ Tupac

And Michael Jackson has joined the pantheon.

I'd swap MJ for Pink Floyd in 2011.

As far as actual t-shirts go, I'd bet Led Zeppelin beats out the Beatles, if only because Zep fans are a much more likely group to wear rock t-shirts.

This list looks better than mine....except I must have seen a gazillion Pink Floyd "Dark Side Of The Moon" shirts so I'd put them up there instead of Motorhead or Dead Kennedys.

yeah, I suppose in the 70s they were everywhere...but the classic Motorhead armored-dog head logo with "England" underneath has been ubiquitous for 30 years...
    shit, forgot about AC/DC

Which raises the corollary question "Where exactly are you spending your free time?"

Misfits and Ramones: most popular shirts worn by "non-conformist" kids who think they're the only ones who have it.

Need to get myself into a Dark Side of the Moon shirt stat. I will look so cool.

A friend of mine works at H & M, and there I've seen shirts of The Ramones, The Misfits, Nirvana, Rolling Stones and Sex Pistols. I remember overhearing one guy buying a Misfits shirt and he said, "The Misfits?! I thought this was the logo for The Venture Brothers." I had to hide in a clothesline full of striped polos to muffle the laughter.
