80s library records question

I've got the chance to buy around 200 80s library records for cheap. They are mostly KPM and Selected Sound ones and probably some De Wolfes and they are all mint condition.
Unfortunatly I can't prelisten to any of those as there isn't a turntable available.

I have no clue what these 80s libraries will sound like but I guess it is a lot of synthesizer stuff.
Therefore I'm not sure if I should buy them.

Is there any good stuff?
Should I cherry pick certain records?
Is there anything I should look out for particularly?
Are they marketable and how much are they going for?

Thanks in advance!

I've listened to many hundreds of these and they almost all suck, imo. I also see them cropping up more and more.

Unless you have lots of free time on your hands, I wouldn't bother.

I put these out for $3 - $5 and they don't exactly fly out of the bins, a lot of them get marked down to $1.

Most of the KPMs I'd stay away from. Some of the Selected Sound stuff may be interesting. Depends what you're looking for really.

there was also some stuff that was on dewolfe (or apple i think it was labeled in the 80's?) that had some really cool boogie and synth tracks on them

KPM 1205 is hott and was released in 1980, I think. There's a track on there by Ray Davies called "Power Play", which is an ill disco cut (google it). I think there's also one called "City of Gold", or "City Police" on that record, which is also good.

A lot of 80s KPM stuff is truly awful, but seek out 1205.

    Kindly,

Thanks so far! "Power Play" is awesome, but it seems to be from 1977. But maybe I'm lucky and it is included in the bunch.
Boogie/Disco stuff would be my cup of tea. Any more tips what to seek out?

popsiking them athe moment. So fart I had ten which are going for 100??? or more. Score of my life.
Please excuse my my braging but im totally blown away by these records. So much amazing stuff included there.

  • Congrats, but almost of all of the good ones you mentioned are 70's, not 80's. There's a huge drop off in quality between the two which is why I was discouraging before.

to those i already listened to are so ridiculously good, it's insane... I havn't had such a pleasure listening to music since s long time.I don't know where to start with recording soundclips. It's like listening to the whole run of the dusty fingers compilations but 10 times better.

yes, it is. I've got nearly all themes library records and all golden Selected Sounds. Keith Mansfiled, Alan Tew, Alan Hakshaw... AWESOME

  • I'm seriously jealous! When you said it was all 80s I wasn't expecting that. Drama Suite is all the Black Dynamite and Hanged Man stuff isn't it.

I really don't know. Can anyone verfy this?
The killer tune on the Madeline Bell library is the stripped down version of "love is all". Incredible stuff.

Yep, and don't forget The People's Court!

Is La = Light Activity? Or which one do you mean?

Ah, got it: You're talking about the "Listen to L.A.". Listening to it now for the first time. Heavy shit, indeed.
