Getting together my christmas mix for this year...anyone have any good tips on christmas or holiday music to use? Probably stick to soul/funk for this. I'd like to break out of the normal stuff, trying to take it up a notch this year. Also, I'd love more music representing other religions.

Heres a few I discovered this year:

Honey & The Bees - Jing Jing A Ling (Chess)

Also, I'd love a copy of "Purple Snowflakes". Never seen it though. Anyone know if it was pressed on 45?

Heres another cool one. Probably my favorite of the year:

Soul Duo - Just A Sad XMas (Shiptown)

Pretty rare label I guess. Other tracks on it go for good money.

I already told my story about how this was almost released as a pic sleeve 45.

  • I don't know who made it, but it was on a DJ Muro Christmas mix some years ago. The lyrics were "I want a Christmas tree. A very special Christmas tree." And every other time he'd tell his wife in the song "Ah! Woman!"

How can anyone forget Clarence Carter's Backdoor Santa off the Testifyin' lp? It was the sample in Run D.M.C's Christmas In Hollis. It was also on the Soul Christmas comp on Atco.
