At some point I could swear someone posted a link on here to a tee shirt riffing on the RUN DMC logo, but with text to the effect of "STOP DOING THIS."

That was rad and I want one for Hannukah. Anyone remember that?

  • haha! I was just thinking about that same thing; was gonna post a reply to my own post on that. that shit is even tired-er than the Run DMC shit. I recall some enterprising young hustla had those for sale during the playoffs outside PacBell talmbout

    BUSTER&
    AUBREY&
    PAT&
    FREDDIE.

The first one I saw said

    ICE CUBE
    DR. DRE
    MC REN
    EAZY E
    DJ YELLA

And I kinda liked it. A couple months later, I wanted the whole concept to go away.

And yes, the Run DMC logo biting has got to stop. And Bay Area artists: PLEASE stop appropriating BART/BART tickets/BART system map for your graphics. Seriously. Just knock that shit off.

Yup - the first shirt was the John & Paul & Ringo & George design, created by Dutch typography wizzes Experimental Jetset in 2001. It's since been ripped off dozens, if not hundreds, of times to list out NWA members, Ramones members, Wu Tang members, basketball team players, city attributes, etc.

I saw Experimental Jetset give a lecture about a year ago and was hoping they'd talk about this phenomenon. Sure enough they talked quite a bit about it. You can watch the very lecture right here (FFWD to the 68:00 minute mark for the part about the t-shirt in question):

May i nominate the 'Listen to...' t-shirt for consideration.

the first time i saw a listen to Black Sabbath t-shirt BITD i dug it.

The 20th time not so much.

last week i saw some trustafarian sporting a listen to Bob Marley shirt.

We get it, you're a cock.

I am guilty of owning a

    Hawk&
    McGill&
    Guerrero&
    Mountain&
    Caballero.

shirt. im an 80's kid and couldnt resist it, but i do feel like a bit of a numpty when wearing it.
