    A teenage Elton Johns' band Bluesology.



    Not exactly 'funky' but definitely inspired by the soul acts (The Isley Brothers, Doris Troy, Billy Stewart, Major Lance and Patti LaBelle) they were being used as a backing band for.

    The Lp is called 'The brass menagerie', and it's off 1973. There's also a great version of 'Season of the witch' on there.
