decent place for cheap ($100 or under a night) to stay in the French Quarter

    Check expedia. They had $99 specials at the Monteleone on Royal. Swanky.
    Otherwise, look around the CBD. Couple of blocks from the quarter and prices
    are way more reasonable. The quarter Holliday Inn is crummy. Don't do it.

    Or I tend to use Trip advisor. Which not only can help you find deals, but the reviews are a good way to really check out whats up with places you're thinking about staying around the world.

    A friend of a friend is in town working on a project and is staying there right now for 2-3 weeks, paying only $45 a night for an AMAZING suite. not sure if it's that cheap for a shorter stay, but worth a look...

    i'd also check stuff on craigslist: http://neworleans.craigslist.org/vac/

    personally, though, i'd recommend staying at a B&B in the Marigny instead of a hotel in the quarter, but i don't really have any specific recommendations on that front...

    I just put a deposit down on subletting a house for three days and highly suggest doing the same. I'm coming down for the Ponderosa Stomp and can't wait.

    When you goin Er*c?

    I'm goin a week from this coming thursday for an extended weekend. We booked through bookit.com to stay at the Frenchman which was 80 a night. Has good reviews, looks very uh... independent, and most importantly has free parking. Apparently a lot of the hotels down there don't which can run you and extra 20-30 a day.

    I used http://www.hotwire.com on my road trip in june, worked very well. Got hipped to it by other road trippers.

    They usually got the lowest price of the big booking sites.

    Frenchmen Hotel is right next door to my office, seems like a nice place, and obviously location is great.

    if enough people are coming for Ponderosa, would the Strut be interested in a meetup?

    Yeah, I'm goin for the stomp. I'm gonna DJ at the hip drop
    Pre stomp party. I'm going to take the train to Nola, so I won't have a car and want to be in walking distance of all the stomp stuff...looking at the map it seems the quarter would be a good place since I'm hoofin it

    Radd dude, I'll try to check out your set. You're playing 60's r&b I take it?
    For real though, think about the CBD, also refered to as "downtown". Almost every hotel in that district
    is less than a 5 min. walk to the quarter. It is also where the posher restaurants are. You'll save money,
    the architecture is varied and interesting, and drink prices drop by 30%. No need for a car. NOLA
    is a small city.

    Got a room for 3 nights for less than $300 total at Hotel Le Cirque. Walking distance from the train station and on the St. Charles streetcar line..if anybody else is still looking for a place, there are still rooms available...seems like a pretty nice place...

    The fair will be held at The Cabildo of the Louisiana State Museum in Jackson Square (French Quarter)
    600 St. Peter St.

    TWO DAYS
    Sept. 24th and 25th
    11am - 5pm

    PLEASE:
    - email to reserve a table at the record fair (please name size and dates of reservation)
    - email to tell me about a great dealer you know who might be interested in selling

    VENDOR INFO:
    Tables are 8 feet long and approx 2+ feet wide
    $60 = one table for one day
    $110 = one table for two days
    $35 = 1/2 table for one day
    $65 = 1/2 table for two days
    Payment will be made in advance, when you contact me to make your reservation, I will tell you where to send payment

    Parking discount TBD
    Details:
    Friday September 24th, 11am - 5pm (load in from 9am)
    Saturday September 25th, 11am - 5pm (load in from 9am)
    Vendors reserving tables for 2 days may leave their records set up overnight, venue will be locked and have security.
    Vendors loading out please do so by 6pm.
    Fair is on floor 2 of building, there is a loading entrance and elevator to floor 2.

    I've never been to NO, but the Le Richelieu Hotel has been highly recommended to me by a couple of people when I was planning a trip. Prices are good ($99 a night or so) and most importantly they offer free parking, which I understand is pretty uncommon for hotels down there.
