Here's a guy threatening to kill the mother of his kid on tape, and in all likelihood he will skate after the appropriate period of penitence and rehab. Now I haven't seen the papers for a few days, so I don't know how much prominence all this is getting outside of TMZ-world. Given that one of the biggest movie stars of the last 25 years is involved, you'd expect it to be front-page news, wouldn't you?
Tiger Woods, on the other hand, stuck his dick in a bunch of porn-stars and waitresses, and that shit was never out of the papers for...how long? Not to mention that his wife beat his ass. The media en masse picked over every aspect of his decline with a mixture of sanctimony and barely-disguised glee for weeks and weeks and weeks, until he was pretty much browbeaten into making a humiliating public apology for his transgressions.

Holy moly this dude is NUTSO. The first audio I heard I kinda thought dude was just some cold, manipulative asshole, but after hearing this tape with the heavy breathing and yelling and all it seems obvious that he's got some serious, serious problems.
I am not positive but I remember hearing that Passion of the Christ was something like the highest grossing independent film of all time. But I could be thinking of My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Point being, Gibson, as he showed us with the his last film about the Mayan empire, works mostly outside the Hollywood system. He can head to some third world country with a crew and bang out a movie with a bunch of locals who don't even speak English. And the film WILL make money. Sure he might get blacklisted from making a Hollywood sponsored Mel Gibson Vehicle but those offers seemed to have dried up anyway.

I'm clear on that bit. I'm still at a loss as to why that would justify the threats, though. Some people will cheerfully make excuses for the most disgraceful behaviour if it comes from a celebrity.
