Anna Paquin Yay or Nay

I get some of my best book/movie recommendations from one of my close girlfriends. Recently, she recommended the HBO series True Blood and the book series it is based upon by Charlaine Harris. She gave me her boxed set of paperbacks when she was moving and I have decided that they are sleazy. I want to give the True Blood TV show a chance, though it looks even sleazier than the books based on the YouTube clips I've watched. Have any of you watched this show? Is it worth me spending $6 to rent season one from Blockbuster? The MAIN factor that's keeping me from giving the show a chance is Anna Paquin. Sure, she's pretty, but her nasally voice grates on my nerves. Her mouth is funny. Her teeth are funny, which I don't understand, since dental work is pretty much considered medical these days, and I'm sure even actors have decent dental plans. Normally, I don't think about this stuff. But at work, when I am doing mindless tasks such as putting paper in the shredder, I find myself thinking about what to make for dinner, what to wear tomorrow and how annoying I find Anna Paquin's voice to be. Since I am not a male, a lesbian who looks like Justin Bieber or a vampire, I thought I'd ask the Strut what they think. Am I just crazy, or does anyone else feel the same way? For reference, Anna played Rogue in the X-Men movies.True Blood Trailer. Watch at your own risk. Nasally voices involved.

    The show is totally cheesy but also enjoyable. Once you get past the burning "is this show lame" question in your mind it actually is pretty enjoyable. I have no interest in the books. The show is worth watching though.

    True Blood is trashy fun, not to be taken seriously but diverting. Anna Paquin is probably about the least interesting thing about it, but she's pretty easy to ignore even though she's the main character.

    For me, the show is all about Lizzy Caplan and Alexander Skarsg?rd.

    Alexander Skarsg?rd is pretty hot. From the clips I've seen, the other actors pretty much drown out Anna. Rutina Wesley is hilarious.

    I think it's one of those things that people would now give her a hard time if she actually got her teeth fixed. I was skeptical of the show because I had no prior interest in her. I only remember her being a kid actor and being in some movie about birds migrating and jeff daniels is her dad. I think True Blood is pretty fun though.

    She's one of New Zealand's finest exports! seriously though I think she's quite a good actress. My teeth are the same so maybe I feel sorry for her or something.

    When I watched the first episode I didn't like the show at all. But a girl at work told me I had to watch at least the first 5 episodes. I'm now a fan.

    I watched the first 6 or 7 episodes, but as soon as characters started shape shifting into dogs it got real silly. I am tired of the whole vampire genre that people are so crazy about these days.

    This is the only good recent vampire film I have seen......

    I watch True Blood. It's well-made, entertaining fluff - nothing more, nothing less. Anna Paquin is hot. The teeth don't bother me - Lauren Hutton had a gap in her teeth you could fly a plane through in American Gigolo, and she was hot too. Those sort of things give a face character. A Yay over here

    I can't believe people really like that show. I'd rather watch Brothers and Sisters and/or eat dogshit.

    i wanted to like that show (i was looking for a new series to follow at the time)but i couldn;t make it past the first 15 minutes. it's a soap opera. a number of ladies i know (including my partner) love that show but i have never heard a guy ever ride for it.

    There was a pretty good Swedish vampire flick that came out in late 2008 called "Let the Right One In". Worth seeing, IMO, even if you aren't a genre fan.

    HUGE co-sign on LTROI... avoids the trappings of the genre and certainly rises above it in the end... it's more of a coming-of-age fable, imo... btw, a great film that it reminded me of is 'The Reflecting Skin'...

    As for True Blood, as fishmonger mentioned it's a supernatural soap opera... goes without saying that it's cheese but it's entertaining and fairly well written as far as plotting, characters and dialogue goes for these type of shows... you could do much worse... Paquin's Sooky can be grating at times but I think that's kind of the intent behind her character... not to say it's one of the best things on tv but I'm still catching the episodes...

    I was hoping Daybreakers would be better. The premise is interesting , but he story missed a lot of good opportunities. There also needed to be more about the subsiders.

    the show is braindead trashy fun. i've only watched the first season. it takes awhile to get 'good'.

    Thirded. This is a really REALLY good film, and I mention it every time people talk about either True Blood or Twilight.




    On a related note, I just got the Dusk Till Dawn box-set. I had never seen the second or third. The second one was AMAZING!

    I dunno if anyone watches True Blood. But last nights eps was pretty good. The ending had me laughing.

    It's a good fun show, it's dirty it's sleazy, I like it!

    Also as far as art-direction goes, this is one of the best shows for consistency and just plain weird shit. Also the intro sequence is MINT.
