12 monkeys is hardly a remake. it's "based on" the OG short. I love 12 monkeys.

watched it last night. it has held up pretty well. assuming my memories of the film's visuals are accurate, the blu-ray transfer wasn't all that great.

    Shaft the 'remake' was TRASH.

And it really wasnt a 'remake' cause OG Shaft was in it as the Uncle.

They could really rebooted Shaft for a whole new generation, but they went for "Mr. I say yes to everything" Jackson. Who was some late 40s lookin dude.

Shaft should have been a young and/or new actor.

It could have easily been a trilogy.

They castrated the 'brand' with that trash.

exactly. in the eyes of the studio execs Samuel L must represent some badass latter-day blaxploitation figure, which is wrong and more than a little suspect.

how the F*ck are they gonna cast an old-ass dude in the roll of Shaft? they were totally off.

I could see if it was super CGI Sin-City type of old NYC retro steez.

Jeffery Wright and Christian Bale as co-villians was such a waste of good opportunity.

Sam is "cool" but not exactly 70's cool IMO.

    Ocean?s Eleven

    I cant stomach this franchise.

Yeah, but it's a vast improvement over the OG. Not that it's saying much.

    First/third = superior popcorn movies

    Second = incoherent, self-indulgent codswallop.

What he said. The 2nd in the series was a complete throw away.

FACT: the remake of "the thing" is better than the OG. FACT.

The remake of The Thing is (imho) one of the greatest movies of all time. As someone whose mind was comprehensively blown by the o.g's of Assault On Precinct 13 and Halloween, as well as Escape From New York, I was a hardcore Carpenter fan by the time it dropped, and for me it has never not been his finest moment. Incredible score, too.

Whats the OG to Carpenter's The Thing ? The black and white The Thing That Wouldn't die ?

A Howard Hawks movie from 1951.

If I remember rightly, the DoP on the Carpenter remake was the son of the DoP on the Hawks OG. Not certain about that, though.

anybody see that coen bros remake of the ladykillers?

I don't know a single person (apart from myself) who likes the Tarkovsky OG that has a good word for the Clooney/Soderbergh version. It's not a great movie, but it was kind of unnecessary. I didn't hate it though.

The remake of the Ladykillers was quirky that had its moments. I liked it. Good, but not great. Never saw the original though.

As a footnote to all the praise for the remake of The Thing, they're currently filming a prequel in Toronto. (Saw a filming notice in the elevator of a downtown condo last night.)
