You can do it, I was a heavy smoker for 17 years, I'm now 3 3/4 years smoke-free. Good luck!

  • Just don't f*cking do it dude.

Just keep reminding yourself how mad you will be at yourself if you have a cigarette. Even one puff.

I've quit a million times, but this last time I've really stuck to it. I started smoking when I was 13, on and off for the rest of my life. That's more than 20 years. Dear God.

Now just the thought of the taste of a cigarette grosses me out. I don't ever want to taste that shit again.

What did it for me was exercise. I went on a crazy health kick and started running, eating well. The more I did it the less I wanted to smoke.

My dad recently dying of cancer pretty much sealed the deal though. He hated it when I smoked, so I kinda did it for him too. Whenever I have an urge I think of him.

Good luck man. You can do it.

I stopped because smoking is horrible for you and I started to have pains in my chest. I just told myself that I DON'T SMOKE. I'M NOT A SMOKER. And that was enough this time. As compared to the last time which lasted 5 years or so. That was until I went on a "freak tour" with my friend on my last day of vacation in Mexico. And I witnessed things that can not be written on the internet. Which made me smoke again. Blah Blah Blah

  • get on that chewing tobacco for a few months. ween yourself off the nicotine slowly... worked for me. kinda.

When I quit I was feeling just like you.
I talk to a friend who is a physician and she recommended to me
    to use niquitin.
Its taste is bad, but worked very well for me; in the second day
after I started using it I was back to my normal self. I could sleep
and eat well, the anxiety and moodness went.
If you're unsure about using it, go see a doctor and ask for some advice.

Don't give up. At the end you'll realize that quitting was one of the best
    things you did for yourself.

    Good luck and stay strong!

Best advice I can offer - because it worked for me - is to find yourself a good hypnotherapist who specialises in helping people quit smoking. After one session last October, I haven't smoked a cigarette since, and that's after 16 years as a smoker. No cravings, no anxiety, no getting stressed because you're constantly thinking about how you mustn't have a cigarette. I still can't believe how easy it was. Admittedly I was lucky enough to get my treatment at a discount, but it's still the best money I've ever spent. If you're going to spend money trying to quit cigarettes, then you're better off with hypnotherapy than with nicotine replacement therapy. If I were you, I'd definitely consider it.

a couple of stop-smoking threads back someone posted a link to a book that they said was really helpful in quitting (and several strutteurs cosined as I recall).

Anyone remember what book that was?

I'd imagine it was Allen Carr's Easy Way To Stop Smoking, which I know has helped a few friends of mine to quit. He doesn't mention in the book that he quit through hypnotherapy, but if he did that, then you mightn't buy his book. Still, like I say, it's worked for people I know, and it's all about finding whatever works for you.

  • I tried and failed for years.....F*ck a patch, this shit works. I didn't even complete the full course, going on a year smoke free.

    ....except when I'm drunk.

Good things usually don't come easy. Don't give up!

It's really hard for me to be disciplined without setting tangible goals. Try putting aside the money you would spend on cigarettes each day/week, and at the end of the month (or longer, if you can), buy yourself something special. Convince yourself that the process of saving the money, waiting, and thinking of something special to buy is better than the instant gratification of a cigarette.

So I've smoked since I was 18 (Not long really... I'm 26 now), and heard through a co worker of mine who had quit that this actually worked. She went and did a study at Mayo Clinic (Literally 100ft from my job) and got to take this and Zyban for study they were so creatively calling "Chan Ban". So I signed up for it and took both pills for about 10 days. It worked so good I stopped smoking by the 5th day, and didn't even continue the study. so needless to say,

Just smoke weed to ween you off ciggs. It tastes better, it doesn't leave that lingering stale smoke smell, and it gets you high.

This one did it for me.
Tried several times before and didn't succeed, with this I'm going on my third year smoke free and never feel an urge to smoke.

This book (recommended by Rod ? thanks dude!) coupled with Chantix and support from friends helped me quit. The Chantix can give you some seriously vivid dreams though. I didn't know dreams could be that vivid.

    Stay strong!

One of my coworkers tried that... pretty much said that things stopped feeling real, and time became inconceivable. He started smoking again.
