awesome job on finding the clip where the band is 100000 dbs louder.

she may not have the range of randy crawford or minnie ripperton, but in the 90s...how many did ? davina? amel ?

    opinions differ.

    shes far from weak.

See, ur cathin feelins. I didnt say SHE was weak, her voice is weak.

Davina has a stronger voice, and Amel plays to her strengths which isnt classic Gospel derived vocals.

Are u sayin that her VOICE is underrated and that she needs more props as a SOUL singer?

i'll cosign Sisqo, not because he's incredible, but because almost no one takes him seriously at all, and he's actually alright.

I gotta give a special shout-out to my man Billy Butler[/b]. It's hard
to stand out in a scene where Gene Chandler, Curtis Mayfield, Major
Lance and your own brother Jerry Butler are having major success,
and most of you will say I'm nuts, but I think Billy Butler was the
best pure singer of that crew. He was also a gifted songwriter.

underrated? I'd say these three are/were fairly rated as vocalists.

haha yeah there are a TON of people getting named in here that sell out arenas.

I mean, I knew what dude was getting at with Lionel Richie (I guess) but come on,
Lionel Richie is a "superstar" ... kind of hard to call anyone that popular and
famous "underrated" ... the three listed above are some of the most highly rated
vocalists of the past 20 years, with critics and fans ... ?

Dude gets overlooked because the rest of the label is so incredible but this guy made a lot of great records.

    chico debarge.

Im a fan, but his voice is rather weak, compared to EL & Bobby's.

that Neo_Soul album he put out after jail is bananas, but i think what makes his thang work, is his sense of feel vs. having great vocals.
He's Soulful, yet not really a great vocalist.

LOVE me some Marsha Ambrosius. Truly underrated, but as always,

Sisqo was (is) one of the most talented singers of his generation IMO. People focused to much on stuff like "Thong Song" and all the rumors about his preferences. Dude can genuinely sing... he's got that gospel schitt all up inside of him (PAWS)

That Phil Perry clip is the BUSINESS. Whatever happened to the screamers? That's one of the biggest things missing from the new soul or R&B music I hear these days... don't nuthin' get to your soul deeper than some heartfelt, agonizing SCREAMING. Are there any new singing people who even do this anymore?

No love for Anthony Hamilton? Or is he big enough in the US to not be considered underrated? He's still very much a kind of figure in the UK.

Speaking of the UK, Paul Johnson.

Anthony Hamilton isnt underrated IMO. He's been the current go to guy during award shows as an example of current Soul singers.

The public know and praise him and Jahiem as carrying the traditional Soul steez.

  • Eugene Mcdaniels because he has sort of a weird/not great voice but he manages to be really soulful
