font class="post"1b, 21b, 21I'd probably make Jeru tha Amateur jokes for a week.

Aside from Jeru, who else would be in this category? Certainly not Biz Markie...

  • A certain other strutter who shall remain nameless mentioned seeing the one Talib Kweli spin

  • if I were a DJ that had been grinding for a while (I'm not), I'd be annoyed prolly. It doesn't really seem "fair" that a rappeur who can no longer hack it in rapp could come into an already-saturated DJ field and trade on his name recognition to get gigs over DJs who have been DJing since dude was rapping.b, 21b, 21EDIT: this assumes said wash up is not a good DJ. if he/she is, more power to him/her.

  • this "celebrity" dj shit has been going for a while now though, but i guess its rappers now going at it.

red flag words: "DJ set!"b, 21b, 21I'd actually prefer Talib Kweli to keep off the mic for awhile. b, 21b, 21(oops)

Is it blasphemy to say that I've seen/heard Afrika Bambaata DJ'ing multiple times and it sucked balls?

font class="post"1b, 21b, 21I'm saying. It's the same shit if a rapper pulls it. A whole lot of jabbering on the mic before cutting into the next record. Fade down that record, "Yall remember this shit? Real shit, son!" cut into next record, etc. etc. b, 21b, 21b, 21Plus with someone like Jeru it would be all golden-age classic shit anyway, right? Don't we all hear that shit all the time? I can't imagine Ru's gonna flip the script on Smif-n-Wessun's "Bucktown" all of a sudden. Ooh, maybe he would bust out a bunch of unreleased Afu-Ra test pressings! b, 21b, 21 img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/talib-doodoo.gif" alt="" /1

font class="post"1b, 21b, 21i agree. walked into the room briefly where he was playing and after trainwrecking and ADD-mixing a handful of songs mid-verse, i was much happier back in the other room. he was awful

  • I'll take a rapper trying to DJ over these other clowns.b, 21I've been to so many afterparties where the shitty bass player of some english buzz band is trainwrecking a mix while dumb beckys dance and try to make eye contact with him.b, 21The celeb dj thing has gotten so out of hand. A couple years ago I walked into a club and f*cking Pedro from Napolean Dynamite was on the turntables... img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/WHYMUSTICRY.gif" alt="" /1b, 21also those Good Charlotte dudes get a fair amount of gigs as well. listening to them attempt to mix f*cking hurts my head.

Dudes, it really doesnt matter anymore. The game is over I hate to say. A friend of mine is a former model thats DJ'ing in NYC now. I can remember back when stuff like mixing and blends and playing cool music was kind of important, but nowadays its just about a celebrity name on the flyer and/or a really hot girl. b, 21b, 21b, 21I will still show love for real dj's all day, but much like any other creative profession that once required skills and/or talent, the amateur invasion has almost killed it.

P.S. I would not pay money, nor waste gas to see Jeru do anything.

I would pay money to see Jeru wear an Indian headdress in a Thanksgiving play. But that's it.

font class="post"1b, 21b, 21b, 21D would get a pass no? He put in his time as a DJ for BDP when Scott died. I remember being at a show in the late 80's and thinking he wasn't the worst DJ for a group.

  • Haven't heard D-Nice but I'd pay to see Q-Tip play, situation depending.

font class="post"1b, 21b, 21actually....i heard dnice can hold it down.b, 21b, 21somebody like q-tip, knows records and has taste when it comes to the beats... technically he may not be up to par, but the grasp on knowledge counts for something.b, 21b, 21b, 21b, 21b, 21more heads should pull cards on those who got no business doing as such, on some hip hop shit...put them in their place.b, 21nobody really gets checked anymore (say maybe ice t clowning soulja boy)

font class="post"1b, 21b, 21I wont say the game is over but "the DJ formerly known as..." has been around for a minute.b, 21b, 21What percentage of club crowds really care about the "real DJ".b, 21b, 21Its like the Celebrity Chef that didnt have to pay "dues" or the Hollywood "stars" eclipsing models to hype fashion. b, 21b, 21It is what it is.
