Before you set yourself up for 'asshole of the year', check with your downstairs neighbor and make sure the same can't be said about you. If it's certain that its not an issue with the building's floors then:b, 21b, 21/font1

b, 21b, 21Speaking of hoofery, I did wake up (waaay to early on my day off too!!!) this morning seriously thinking that my neighbors were wearing horseshoes and had extra legs, shit was unbelievably loud. But then again, I know that when I'm still in my half-sleep noises are super amplified and extra-annoying to me, esp. when I'm really trying to fall back asleep.

I once had an upstairs neighbour who partied so hard that he didn't even hear the doorbell when i was ringing. Luckily, his fuses were outside the flat so i gave him a little darkness. He didnt like it and the next few days he always pulled my fuses and started to threaten me with his friends and a pitbull. I kept my cool and then he became a father and moved to the suburbs with his little family.

  • What was funny for me one time is when I had a neighbor living next door. A single girl that was a lesbian. Early in the morning it was like a porno playing loud! Coming home from work at 6AM in the morning I could hear her through the front door with other chicks.

b, 21b, 21I've been meaning to do that since I always jump rope and exercise and wondered if it was disturbing them. Luckily I live on the top floor so i get the best of both worldds.. too bad for those ground floor motherfuckas

  • a dated sincere note for starters, but be careful what you say. keep it friendly but be firm that its causing you a lot of discomfort, and youd really appreciate some consideration. keep a copy. if it ever escalates etc, youll have proof you were being reasonable at least.b, 21b, 21b/wb, 21b, 21my upstairs neighbor is my roughly 65 year old landlady who lives alone with a cat and is normally pretty quiet. But recently she got a boyfriend.... (her first in the 6 years ive lived beneath her, so good for her, but...) ....who apparently thinks hes a musician but is actually a tone-deaf aging hippie who "practices" on her totally out of tune upright piano and cant hold a tune together to save his life anyway. He does this first thing in the morning, before they have breakfast. might be time for a sincere note over here too!

Don't go straight to the note - unless they're scary people just knock round and ask them if they can be a bit quieter next time they're really getting loud. Going straight to a formal note without tackling the problem face to face first is only going to a) piss them off and b) not bring it to their attention when they are actually being loud.

b, 21b, 21agreed - my bad about the note going first. the note is the 2nd resort if 'in person' fails. i guess ive had so many in persons go south that i wish i had documentation for, so i tend to lean toward notes. but no, its not recommended for the 1st volley.

I'm on the 2nd floor and had a housewarming party on Friday night (Tom Noble gave my homemade Indian food a good review btw). About 20 people showed up and admittedly the music was a bit loud, so around midnight the cops showed up. I turned down the music and it was all good. Or so I thought.b, 21b, 21The next day my property manager called, saying that the woman living downstairs left a hysterical voicemail about the party and said that on other days & nights I'm playing loud music all the time so her kids can't sleep. Having never even SEEN my downstairs neighbors, this kinda pissed me off that she took it to the manager AND the cops without even knocking on my door just to say hello. Luckily the manager seemed to think that the woman was a bit crackers, so she told me to talk to the woman's husband instead.b, 21b, 21Trying to work things out, I went downstairs for a face-to-face and naturally nobody answered the doorbell. So I left this note on their door and gave a copy to the manager:b, 21b, 21/font1Quote:/font1h, 21b, 21Hello:b, 21b, 21I live in apartment #7 above you, and this morning I got a call from the property manager about the noise from my apartment. b, 21b, 21Firstly, I apologize for not letting you and other tenants know that I was having a housewarming party last night. I should have let you know in advance. The police arrived with a noise complaint, so I turned down the music immediately and I assumed that solved the problem.b, 21b, 21Secondly, the property manager mentioned that I may have been playing music/TV too loud at other times as well. I apologize for this too, but I had no idea that my music was bothering anyone. No tenants talked to me directly about it, so I assumed that it was at an acceptable level.b, 21b, 21From now on, I'll try to keep the music & TV volume lower. But I would appreciate if you would let me know in person if it is too loud. Sometimes the bass & lower frequencies can carry through walls at low volumes, so what seems quiet to me can sound loud to others, and I am unware of it.b, 21b, 21So feel free to call me or tell me in person if there is a problem in the future. I want to enjoy my music, but I don't want to disturb anyone. I am new to California and want to be a good neighbor!b, 21b, 21Thank youb, 21b, 21h, 21b, 21b, 21Hopefully that will dead the issue. But to be nice, I've eliminated the bass on my stereo & computer speakers... making everything sound tinny. img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" 21b, 21b, 21Plus now I'm walking on eggshells that every time I turn on the stereo that I might get a visit from the cops. b, 21b, 21Downstairs neighbors suck! img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerbang.gif" alt="" 21

b, 21b, 21This is the best thing about living in a single family home. I don't even have to think about that kind of shit.

b, 21b, 21This is the best thing about living in a single family home. I don't even have to think about that kind of shit. b, 21b, 21h, 21b, 21b, 21for real. I have lived in apartments for the past 10 years or so and when we finally moved to our own spot it was so nice. No more downstairs or upstairs neighbors making noise. b, 21b, 21I've been the problem as well as suffered from the problem.b, 21b, 21I used to live on the top floor of a building and this was right when i graduated college. I lived with my two best friends and we seriously had the most fun 3 and a half years ever. We had a 70 lb dog that we would chase around the house. We'd throw the tennis ball down the stairs (two flights of wooden stairs) and she'd go running after it. We'd do stationary skateboarding in the house. it was seriously a bad look on our part, but the guys downstairs were assholes. They were totally passive aggressive and started off really bad with us. As we were moving in they told us we couldn't park in a certain spot, which we later found out they had no right to. No "hi, nice to meet you, but that's our space." Just intense attitude form the get go. b, 21b, 21I've also suffered living under some of the lamest girls ever. I swear they moved their furniture every night at midnight or later. One night there was a beeping, like a smoke alarm, going off upstairs. It went for like 20 minutes. I eventually went up there and said "can you turn that off?" and the girl looked at me all weird like "what the F*ck" and closed the door. These girls would get laid like twice every few months, but it was really loud and should our walls. It was always at 3 in the morning and for at least an hour. In this same building the girl downstairs would wear high heels in the morning and walk around for at least 20 minutes at 6 in the morning. Everyday. She would also hock loogies and clear her throat.

  • this weekend someone from the restaurant i live above buzzed my apt because my friend kept landing 360 flips in my kitchen. "i'm like so what i'm drunk"

Please post some passive aggressive notes at your neighbours door. Don't forget to scan the notes and post them here.b, 21b, 21And please invite your neighbour to comment in this thread if he has anything to say in order to explain his wrongdoings.

  • aw man one time years ago I was studying for an important exam and then goin to go to bed early so that i would be well rested to take the test. the whole time there is music blasting from the apt downstairs, real bad anonymous R&B. finally i hit my limit and i walk downstairs and just as i am about to knock on the door, like i literally have my knuckles an inch from knocking, i hear this woman moaning, sex moaning, and i realize the dude who lives there is blasting music so he can muffle the grandiose sounds that this chick is making while they get busy.b, 21 hmmm, he is trying to be considerate in one way but creating worse noise on top of it. i stayed there for a second pondering how to cover my ears when i returned upstairs, and meanwhile i came to the conclusion that her moaning sounded mad fake, to an obvious extent, she was fakin it big time and i just felt bad for this corny brother and his fake chick and i went upstairs.

I was the noisy guy a couple of weekends ago. I got a text from my insane friend on a Thursday afternoon while at work saying he was about to get married. I was half dead from helping Cosmo celebrate the Phillies World Series win the night before, but you gotta go, right? b, 21b, 21So I met up with them after work, and we starting hitting the booze pretty hard. They dragged me to the Of Montreal show, which was pretty bugged out, then we closed the Thursday dance night at Zu Zu. From there, we go back to my place and continue to drink 'til about four, when everybody left except the bride and groom. They had just signed on an apartment, and had no furniture, so I told them they could crash at my place.b, 21b, 21They go into my room, and proceed to have a massive, marriage-ending argument that included the rearrangement of all of the furniture in my bedroom, screaming at the top of their respective lungs, and both of them throwing their rings at each other.b, 21b, 21I finally kicked them out at 5:30 in the morning. Sorry, downstairs neighbors.
