But she been irrelavant for a minute.

I just don't think she belongs anywhere near those other two you mentioned. sure Mariah can sing and has been doing it for a minute, weathered some trends, etc.....but LOTS and LOTS of her output has been embarassing.

b, 21b, 21Yeah, I was debating this but she was still making hits well into the mid to late '90s, and certainly overlapped with D'Angelo and Mary during that time. b, 21b, 21I think D'Angelo was on his way to becoming one of the most important R&B artists of "the generation" but with only two albums, he's much more like a Nick Drake than Stevie or Marvin.

Ill even include that Live At The Jazz Cafe,London Album. Pretty much Brown Sugar Live w/ a good cover of EW&F's Cant Hide Love.b, 21b, 21That recent Mariah comeback album from a couple of years ago was a 'return to form', even though she still continues to try to appeal to Becky,Shaniqua,Hockey Mom, and Jamel.b, 21b, 21I always say that a long lasting R&B artist has Quiet Storm staples.b, 21From Aretha to Aayliyah. The big names have slow jams that continue to get played late night after the club bangers/radio hits have fallin out of popularity.b, 21b, 21D'Angelo's Untitled is still played 10 years after the fact.b, 21b, 21If u got Slow Jams youll be Immortal.....IMO.

b, 21b, 21Please be serious. b, 21b, 21Despite his minimal output, D had major hits and was one of the more influential artists of his generation. b, 21b, 21Drake was a relative unknown until after his death.

How about Jeff Buckley then? img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" 21b, 21b, 21Seriously though, it's hard to come up with a great analogy with D'Angelo - it's not often that artists just disappear at the height of their fame, that early in. A friend suggested the Sex Pistols or Nirvana but frankly, I don't know if D'Angelo's output can really live up to either of those standards.

I think Ursher needs to be in the canon of top R&B singers of our generation.
